Trump Trial Thread Day 2 (Catch and Kill explained)

No thread for Day 2? So I started this. PEcker testifying right now and is detailing the deal he had with Trump to catch and kill damaging stories. This is pretty explosive testimony right now. Getting right to the nitty gritty of how Trump rigged the system in favor of himself.

It killed negative staories about trump and published negative ones about his opponents. This is pretty damning.

2. This is absolutely crazy

I know the National Enquirer isn't exactly the NY Times, but to have a publication like that being directed by a campaing for President is absolutely insane and should be illegal. Trump and Cohen were literally running the National Enquirer in terms of the election coverage. This is a scandal and should be a crime all by itself.

4. It's not a crime, because the media has been political since Jefferson and Adams

...but burying even the occasional story that had promise was a major change of pace for the NE, which genuinely puzzled some of their rabidly enthusiastic British reporters. I'm sure it is a scandal to the NE's fans who would also be shocked that the tabloid they trusted so enthusiastically to show them the dirt was sweeping some of it under a rug.

6. Imagine

Imagine if it had come out that the Joe Biden campaign for president had had veto power over stories for the Washington post and editoirial oversight of negative Trump stories?

This would be one of the biggest scanbdals in the history of the nation.

11. The crime part comes with the coordination.

The media can support a specific candidate. BUT... if they are being directed by, or coordinating with a candiate, then it becomes a campaign contribution, and must be treated as such.

In terms of reliability to it's readership it is. I believe a venn diagram of readers would show little if no overlap at all. Also consider, at that time the NE parent company also published Globe, National Examiner and Star magazines with the same editorial staff supervision and was distributed by Hudson News Distributors, one of the countries largest distributors, to supermarkets across the U.S. Circulation for each of the publications was around 250K each. Add to that the casual readers attracted to the sensational headlines in grocers and pharmacies and the numbers add up. Then of course the dissemination of the content to the non reader associates of the readers . . .

National Enquirer buys story for $30K that Trump has an other illegitimate child, and there's a $1M lever over the Doorman that says he can't take the story anywhere else.

His attorney gets his ass handed to him during the motion for contempt hearing, his old buddy Pecker is selling him out on the stand, and nobody's showing up in front of the courthouse to voice their support for him.

Someone is going to be extremely salty at the end of the day.

Pecker explaining the affair story with Karen McDougal now.

More and more of Trump's dirty laundry becoming now a matter of public record and recorded in court transcripts.

A media outlet conspired with a presidential candidate to fix an election. And it worked.
