I'm 80 FDR was prez when I was born.

(111,352 posts)He didn't start to shine until he was out of office and asking a lot of the right questions while he swung a hammer and started to help poor families build their own houses.
His major achievement when he was President was that for his whole four years, the US was not involved in war, anywhere.

He eventually broke with them, mostly over their treatment of women.

(111,352 posts)Even without brain cancer, that would most likely be the case. He's most likely beyond pain by now, even the pain of losing his wife. That is what I hope for him, anyway.
He's lasted a lot longer than expected already.

He signed the Public Works Employment Act of 1977 He successfully pursued the Camp David Accords and the Panama Canal Treaties.
I give the man even more respect after learning that for a year, he, his wife, and their three sons lived in public housing in Plains, GA.
