Cops pull over wrong car, sic k9 on surrendering victim, realize mistake. Arrest him anyway

https://abcnews.go.com/US/man-speaks-after-police-release-9-traffic-stop/story?id=109463145

Man speaks out after police release K-9 on him during traffic stop: 'Traumatized'
Police had mistakenly pulled over his pickup truck, body camera footage shows.

Once he steps out of the truck, officers order him to face away from them, Upchurch repeatedly asks, "What am I stopped for?" Officers order him to get on the ground several times. As Upchurch takes several steps away from the curb and begins to kneel, an officer releases the K-9 on him, the footage shows.

After Upchurch requests medical attention, an officer tells him "That's coming." After walking away, the officer tells a colleague that Upchurch was a "petulant child" for requesting medical attention.

Following Upchurch's arrest, officers can be heard on the footage realizing that the information they had on the license plate was incorrect and was a "mishit" or "misread" by the license plate reader and that the license plate on the vehicle Upchurch was driving was not a match for the plate on the alleged stolen vehicle.

"Now I know it's not the plate," the officer says.

Upchurch was charged with resisting arrest and obstruction. The complaint alleged that he ignored "multiple commands" from officers while they investigated a stolen vehicle and "refused to comply throughout the entirety of the event."

Little fucker just came up and took a bite out of me. I will have a scar forever and the worst thing is that I had to stay out of the pool for the last three weeks of my vacation. I was traumatized by that event, and I do not like dogs anymore. I hope those victims sue the hell out of the police. I am so sick of their bullshit. FTP.

There was a Dept. of Justice that acted on matters such as this. Once upon a time there was something called "consent decrees." 14 of 'em in fact, issued by the DOJ that provided guidance and monitoring for police departments found to be... errant.

Until the coming of Trump.

During the Trump regime (you know... the guy who's 'done SO much for Black people') there were zero consent decrees.

Trump’s Justice Department has a powerful tool to fight police abuse. It refuses to use it. - Vox (June 2020)

Garland reportedly reversed the Trump administration's near ban on consent decrees. But, best I can tell, there's only been one issued under his department hence.

Cops have qualified immunity and the thin blue line that pretty much protects them from anything.

For every story you hear of a cop getting arrested, there are a hundred that do not.

I was once brutally assaulted by a gang and when the detectives came to my house with mugshots to look at they tried to get me to finger a specific person, I had no idea what they looked like so I could not identify them and was not going to blame it on some random black man in a mugshot book. The detectives got mad at me and physically threatened me. I still refused. I was harassed by police for months afterwards. I still don't understand why.

A long time ago, I had a little poodle bite my finger. It was one of the worst injuries I have ever had. Just had so much pain. And, this guy was bitten on his elbow. It just seems like they wanted to let that dog go on him. I couldn't get the video to load, but if it clearly shows he's starting to kneel, they should start planning to back the money truck up.

It's not the dog's fault. Dogs are good tools in the right hands. Bye bye, dog handler.

He got his fangs into my arm, calf, hip and thigh. Barely missed my femoral artery. I needed stitches in my thigh because he sunk his fangs in so deep that he left massive holes in my leg.

In the aftermath, the bruising was so bad that it looked like someone had run over that side of my body. I was in such agony that I could barely move my entire left side, except to bathe and go to the loo. I was out of school for around a month. Maybe six weeks. I was 11, so I don't really remember how long anymore.

The only positive was that the dog was up to date on its shots, so no rabies immune gobulin necessary.

So I don't have to imagine the terror or pain. I've been there, and it's made me wary of dogs, ever since.

No, not completely true, but it's the safe way to bet if you ever have to interact with them.

That "handler" couldn't keep control of it. He needs to be sacked, and the dog taken off the streets. All of the police present there are bastards - if any one of them weren't, they'd have objected to the arrest once their mistake had become apparent.
