BURAS, La. (WGNO) — A Buras man was arrested on Thursday, April 25, in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol breach.

The FBI New Orleans reported 34-year-old Matthew Matulich has been charged with misdemeanor theft of government property, knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted buildings or grounds without lawful authority, disorderly conduct in a restricted building or grounds, entering or remaining in the gallery of either house of Congress, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building and parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.

According to court documents, Google records show Matulich’s phone was on Capitol grounds on Jan. 6, 2021, and was with an unidentified person who later identified him to the FBI.

It’s the second time this week that the Jan. 6 breach has made local headlines. On Monday, a Covington man pled guilty to a federal count of civil disorder in connection with the Capitol breach.
