For the life of me, I don't understand how people don't see Trump

for what he is?
Reagan and Bush polished their folksy bullshit. And while I saw these lying asses for what they were, I understood how some voters fell for it.
But Trump is such an obvious, ignorant, arrogant, obnoxious fool, I just don't get how people don't see right through him.

The thought of voting for a Democrat will make them feel queasier.

I do have one Republican friend who voted for Biden over Trump after she saw Trump in the first debate in 2019. She was so disgusted by him.

And now she's back to talking about voting for him again. We love this friend for many reasons, but her brainpower is not among them.

Her general sources of info are NPR and Newsmax. She thinks Chris Cuomo is handsome/cute and that's why she tunes in. So, do I, but his ego and bothsiderism gets in the way of me actually liking him.

Not everyone that voted for him in 2020 all feel the same way. There will be hard core supporters no matter what. And there will some that begin to see what he is.

It is like a union contract. There may be 50,000 members that are part of the union contract. Not all of them are going to be satisfied. Some will vote no the first time no matter what. Others will look at the contract and try to see if it is a good contract. Some will nit-pik voting no because they are only looking how it impacts them. Some will look at the contract and see if it is overall good for most and likely the best they can get. There may be other perspectives.

There are various groups within the membership. Assembly line workers. Skilled trades. And others. Some may be new and are not looking long term. Some might have family or don't have those obligations. Maybe there are education opportunities. Some may be nearing retirement and might consider it if the contract provides a good deal. They all have issues that may not be the same as others.

The same works for politics. And in the case of Trump. There are likely to be a lot that will not vote for the creep. So many events have transpired starting with the January 6 insurrection. And continuing with the court cases. The threshold will be low for many of those causing them to either not vote for Trump or voting for Biden.

it really goes back to the Civil Rights Act and Lee Atwater. Prior to that it was more obvious that Republicans were a rich people's party with no care for the working class.

But when Democrats passed a law giving rights - and dognity - to people of color, many workinf class white people thought that that was so terrible that there was likely no evil thing Dempcrats wouldn't do. Seriously. Their whole lives, including their version of Christianity, stand on that one thing conviction that their ckinc color makes them superior.

Hence the lies about aborting after birth and pedophole rings in basements.

90. That for sure. Plus I wonder about how many people have toxoplasmosis infections
Sat Apr 27, 2024, 04:19 PM
Apr 27

and have had their brains messed up from the parasite. It can cause some pretty strange things and so far, we have no cure. Throw in decades of hate radio/tv and the paranoia those talking shit heads inspire and there is fertile ground for masses of people to behave like mindless drones following dangerous leaders who pander to their baser instincts.

Toxoplasma gondii is a single-celled protozoan parasite that invades the cells of a variety of host organisms, including humans, and causes a disease known as toxoplasmosis. T. gondii is sometimes nicknamed the "mind-control parasite" because toxoplasmosis can cause a range of neurological and behavioural changes in infected animals, although most human infections have no clear symptoms.

The pathogen is one of the most common infectious parasites in the world and could lay dormant in up to half of the world's population, as well as almost any warm-blooded animal species. But there is still much we don't know about this extremely weird parasite.

[link:https://www.livescience.com/surprising-toxoplasma-gondii-facts|

Because it can be easily transmitted to humans via multiple pathways and often goes unnoticed by infected individuals, T. gondii is one of the most common infectious parasites in humans.

A 2014 study published in journal PLOS One estimated that between 30% and 50% of the global population could be infected with or have been infected with T. gondii. But infection rates likely vary significantly in different parts of the world. For example, the CDC estimates that around 40 million Americans, or around 12% of the population, may have a T. gondii infection

More concern:

One of the parasite's most frightening — and most controversial— possible effects is its impact on the mind. In rats and other animals, it can cause behavioral changes (see more below) and it has been linked to several different neurological disorders in humans too.

Two of the most noteworthy conditions to be linked to T. gondii are schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

In 2006, a study published in the journal Biological Psychiatry first suggested that babies that contract T. gondii in the womb had higher rates of schizophrenia later in life than those who were not exposed prenatally. In 2014, a study published in The Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease showed that people with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder were more likely to have T. gondii antibodies in their system, which are left behind from a previous infection.

T. gondii has also been linked to changes in human behaviour, some of which could be deadly. In 2015, a study published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research suggested that T. gondii infections could make people more aggressive and impulsive, potentially even increasing the likelihood suicide.

to those who liked that folksy style. Reagan was an actor, after all; and W cultivated that good ol' boy persona. I found both rather irritating, especially W, but neither of them was ever in-your-face offensive. They tried to look like nice guys, but Trump intentionally tries to avoid seeming like a nice guy (at least he isn't faking in that regard - he isn't and never was a nice guy). Instead, he's confrontational, insulting and oppositional because he's figured out that this is what his fan base likes that about him. They don't want a nice guy; they want a manifestation of their own nasty impulses. Even W apparently was creeped out by his inaugural address - "That was some weird shit," he said.

I, too, fail to see Trump’s so-called “appeal.” But then again, he’s not trying to appeal to me!

Usually, the MAGA-types would see him as a know-it-all New Yorker, if he were a Democrat. They’d see him as an amoral charlatan, if he were a Democrat. They would hate him with white-hot passion, if he were a Democrat.

They’ve convinced themselves that he’s on their side, and virtually nothing will change their minds. There are two sayings that apply to hardcore Trumpers:

1. It is far easier to fool someone than to convince them they’ve been fooled, and
2. There are none so blind as those who will not see.

51. You Could Say This About Any Cult Member
Fri Apr 26, 2024, 07:19 PM
Apr 26

I have always been fascinated by people who become cult members. After watching innumerable documentaries on cults, from Jonestown, to those I have never heard of (and there are SO many), I always ask myself, how could they not see this leader was crazy? And when presented with evidence, they double down on defending obvious abhorrent behavior and doctrines. When asked to commit or believe moral transgressions or law, they willfully comply. These people cannot be reasoned with. I liken magats to these cult members. For the same people who would be ripe for any cult, like former cult member Ginnie Thomas, Trumpism is just a new iteration. There is no critical thinking in these people. They want someone to follow and to tell them what to do. It also feeds in to their fundamental feelings of entitlement, superiority, and grievance. It gives them a sense of belonging and purpose. And humans are capable of unbelievable inhumanity. I recommend watching The Zone of Interest which I believe is an accurate depiction of how normal people can become numb to evil and passively complicit.

I was amazed at how ridiculous he was. I knew he had a show and was fairly well known in New York, but I'd really never paid much attention to him.

Then I saw a mainstream journalist interview him. My reaction: "Who talks like that or looks like that? And what is with that long clown tie and funny little fish mouth? Why is this network giving him airtime?" At that moment, I could have never imagined him as the republican candidate for president, let alone the president of the United States. Little did I know.

If people like Trump and those supporting him didn't exist we probably have fewer criminals and laws.

He couldn't be any more obvious. You don't have to have a PhD to see what an incompetent clown he is. He is like a caricature of himself.

Every day he tells the world who and what he is, it is no secret. Yet they still support him. Says more about a large segment of our society than it does about Trump. If it hadn't been Trump, it probably would have been someone else eventually.

And they like it, it is what a lot of them are without the veneer of civility.

Or you have the ones like my recently deceased brother in law who was just a bunch of racist homophobic bundle of alcoholic hate.
He became diabetic, kept drinking anyway and died of a heart attack after his blood sugar went too high last month. Nobody could tell him anything to make his life better

When trump came along it was like gas on a fire for him he put out trump crap in his yard after trump lost he put up a flag that said Fuck Joe Biden And you for voting for him.

My wife and I helped clean out his house he took a very negative and hate filled path in life, a waste of a lifetime. He was 67.

He had a lot of issues, I think a lot of his supporters do.

My wife's sister was a raging alcoholic and died 11 years ago from alcohol abuse and smoking 3 packs a day.

They were an incredibly dysfunctional drama filled couple.

... Republicans that hold elected office have publicly stated that they will support and vote for the South End of a Northbound Yak no matter how many felonies he's convicted of, tells you all you need to know about conservative character, namely, that there is none. They have NO honor, NO integrity, and NO intelligence.

who hates the same people they hate, especially if they think that leader will do harm to the people they hate. I saw a comment on another site a few days ago - "Trump totally owned the Demorats!"

Another reason some people like Trump is that Fox News tells them to. My mother-in-law recent;y said "I don't know why they're always picking on Trump." There is just no way to get through to her and others like her, but I try.

It's why they support him.

The fear, the anger, the resistance to demographic change are all part and parcel of the victimization quotient that MAGA clings to willingly. We need to face the fact that there is a wide swath of our own citizenry that openly welcomes the 'strongman' persona bc they know Trump will hurt the people they resent, will make them pay for whatever misfortune or unhappiness they've experienced. Republicans have decided to ride the tiger; as a minority party it's the only thing they've got and winning is everything.

This has less to do with economic insecurity and/or being left behind or any of those 'diner' conversations the press so eagerly ate up.

This is just plain old bigotry and hate from those who are convinced that 'others' are getting what they deserve as 'real' Americans. Wrap it up in patriotism and a distorted sense of Christianity, perfectly gift-wrapped. Then MAGAS get to feel righteous in their hate, ignorance and deluded perspective.

It's why the movement must be crushed. Before the madness destroys us all.

There are those who see Trump as a fascist and will vote and work AGAINST him.

There are those who see Trump as a fascist and will vote and work FOR him.

Then there is a small minority who doesn't see Trump for what he is.
