Ireland: Sinn Fein launches local and European election campaigns

Sinn Féin has launched its campaign for the local and European elections. The party is running candidates in all local authority areas and each of the three European constituencies.

Sinn Féin is running six candidates for the European elections, two in each of the constituencies, and 335 candidates in the local elections - at least one in every local election area.

Speaking to media before the event at the Helix in DCU, party president Mary Lou McDonald said her party hopes to have representatives on every local authority and to lead on many of them. She said this would help the party to deliver on housing if it gains power at national level.

"The big issue that's at all the doors for us is housing, housing, housing in all its manifestations, overcrowding, maintenance of our local authority houses and flats, the issue of rents. I mean rents are literally crucifying people and the fact that you have a whole generation locked out of any real hope of home ownership," she said.

lie about everything else. There's a big difference between them and the other political parties in the Republic of Ireland, which is the other parties are local to the Republic of Ireland and are concerned about us (for good or ill), whereas SF are only concerned about getting power in order to push for a Border Poll, to get a UI.

They aren't even mentioning that to young people. We have a labour capacity issue wrt housing that is being addressed but can't be properly solved for another 5 to 10 years. SF know this but SF in the Republic takes its orders from the "IRA Army Council" in Belfast.

There's other stuff going on with them too....to be seen to be progressive, they had joined mainstream parties in the Republic to be welcoming to immigrants and refugees. However they've been relentlessly attacked by the racist and anti immigrant base within their own party for straying from the core SF belief of "Irish for the Irish".

Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans team event Sunday beating Chad Ramey and Martin Trainer with a par on the first hole of a playoff.

Trainer pushed a 6-foot par putt to the right of the cup to end it, with Lowry and McIlroy sharing a smiling embrace on the green.

The 34-year-old McIlroy, playing in the event for the first time, won his 25th PGA Tour title and first of the season. Lowry claimed his third PGA Tour victory. ☘️ 🇨🇮 ☘️
