'Power of the Sister Vote Boot Camp' highlights importance of Black women voting

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - The 2024 Presidential Election is right around the corner.

The Black Women’s Roundtable organization is making sure Black women cast their ballots during Saturday’s “Power of the Sister Vote Boot Camp”.

According to KFF.org, as of 2022, 72.4% of African Americans in Mississippi were registered to vote. However, only 47% of those registered cast a ballot.

“So, we really need to get out and try to encourage our youth, our young people everybody, old and new,” says Fundraiser Coordinator for the Council of Negro Women, Katrice Cook. “And it’s very hard in the black community to get out and vote. So whatever we can do enhance and improve that, we are here for it.”
