Donnie's tweets and speeches are just one lie after another, often several lies in the same semi-coherent sentence.

The party-approved thought process in response is "wait wut? Isn't that clearly wrong? Oh well, I guess that's what we're going with until told otherwise. So, I'll turn off that part of my brain, agree wholeheartedly, and denounce anyone who disagrees as a traitor"

So when the lie became that Donnie was innocent, they knew exactly what to do.

You can’t do anything about stupid people. If they insist on voting for a would be modern day Hitler, they will. The only good thing that could come out of that, would be if the evil Orange one marched THEM off to the gas chambers after he were to be elected.

That would probably be the only scenario where Trump didn't get his vote.
