Hannah Arendt on The Origins of Totalitarianism. (part 1)

Hannah writes that one hallmark of Totalitarianism is dissolving a distinction between truth and lies, ( news and fake news; facts and alternative facts in today's speak). It is no coincidence that Trump called his megaphone of lies 'Truth Social', just as the Soviets did before him with Pravda (Russian: Правда, IPA: [ˈpravdə] lit. 'Truth')

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
