Israel's Far-right Minister Smotrich Calls for 'No Half Measures' in the 'Total Annihilation' of Gaza

Finance Minister and member of the security cabinet Bezalel Smotrich called on Monday for annihilating Israel's enemies, saying "There are no half measures. [The Gazan cities of] Rafah, Deir al-Balah, Nuseirat – total annihilation. 'You will blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven' – there's no place under heaven."

Smotrich also referred to ongoing negotiations with Hamas for a hostage release deal, saying that Israel is "negotiating with someone who long ago should have ceased to exist at all."

Smotrich, who also is a minister in the Defense Ministry, added that when Hamas is destroyed, Israel must "clear out, with God's help, with one blow, wicked Hezbollah in the north, and really send a message that what will happen to those who harm the Jewish people is the same as those who have tried to harm us in the past – they will be destroyed, destroyed, destroyed. And it will echo for decades to come."

No doubt, the fact that this guy is an elected representative and cabinet member in Israel surely means that every single Israeli and Israel supporter feels exactly the same way that he does. I've learned this from commentary about the protests on college campuses. if somebody associated with your position, but especially a "leader," says something, that can be attributed to everybody. That's how it works, tra la!

Judging by some of the comments and attitudes I've read on DU that is indeed how it works. Point out a few people's outrageous comments and then denounce the whole group.

He's not a powerful unelected 19 year old college student with the ability to shape actual national policy, he's only an elected member of the nations ruling coalition.

If needed....

that there is not a single Retrumplican attending Columbia University, or ANY College for that matter.

I guess all the Retrumplican kids go to Donnie Dipshit U.

Not to mention that an actual Young Retrumplican organization is currently sponsoring and paying for the college speaking tour of a frickin murderer, who at 17, took three assault rifles from Minnesota to Wisconsin, AND FRICKIN KILLED THREE PEOPLE!

I may not be the brightest light in the harbor, but I know what the real threat to peace and Democracy is, and it's not a bunch of misguided college students.

in the West shows that's how most feel.

Just like the Proud boys Jews will not replace us shows that's how their supporters feel.

But there are Israelis protesting against Netanyahu. You don't see the same with pro palestinian protest when it comes to Hamas.

The anti Jewish shit is happening at these protests. And other protestors react the way Trump did with Proud boys and at most say "both sides do it".

and he was the frickin most powerful person in the entire frickin country at the time.

There are some truly despicable people at these protests, but to claim that's "how most feel" is, frankly...ludicrous defamation.

There have been ZERO elected politicians on the American "left" amplifying or supporting the deplorable anti-semitic rhetoric of "some" of these protesters.

You had elected politicians in the right defending the Proud Boys and Nazis. You still HAVE elected politicians on the right supporting and defending VIOLENT INSURRECTIONIST.

One of these things are NOT like the other. Let's stop pretending that they are.

With the backing of an entire major political party working to implement their "trash" political policies.

We're Democratic for a reason, right?

Democrats do a pretty damn good job of keeping their crazy aunts and uncles locked up in the attic. Retrumplicans make their crazy aunts and uncles presidents, senators, governors, congressman and Supreme Court Justices.

Slam Democrats all you want, but we'd NEVER put an authoritarian dipshit out front as our standard bearer for president, or nominate a sick Christofascist as a Supreme Court Justice.

holding 32 of the 120 seats. They maintain power with a coalition of other far right parties.

I broke my own rule about assuming. The Defense Minister is not a member of Likud. He is with the National Religious Party–Religious Zionism, a farther right, racist, homophobic party. They only have 7 seats but back Likud to keep Netanyahu as PM.

To cling to power after the last election, Netanyahu formed a government with far-right parties and factions that even he had spurred during his previous decade in power.

This guy is a nutcase, he will never sit in government again after the next elections.

questioning why so many are protesting, especially students with Palestinian backgrounds and/or who've lost tons of family and friends in Gaza? And we're still hearing the old right-wing talking point "outside agitators" HERE of all fucking places? There are Palestinians in my area of Minnesota that have lost literally hundreds of family and friends, entire multi-generation families wiped out, Gaza damn near destroyed, starvation rampant, with the help of US money andweapons and they're seeing that no one gives a shit. And when they try to speak up, they're called terrorists and/or antisemitic.
