Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhat if Trump passes on before the election?
It might be due to any natural cause: A heart attack; A stroke; A lightening bolt; Choking on a cheeseburger; -- Hell, the possibilities are endless.
But if any of this happens, the wingnut response is totally predictable:
"HE WAS ASSASSINATED!" And he will become an instant martyr.
Marjory Taylor Greene will shriek that, "They used Jewish space lasers."
Putin will find "secret information" that McDonald's poisoned him.
FOX "news": "His murder by Dems was the only way he could lose.'
The NY Times will waffle: "Either side may have been involved."
So who will then become the Republican presidential nominee?
Donald Trump Jr. will claim he's the natural successor.
Nikki Haley will state she was "The last one standing."
And every Republican in the country will insist that they are "The One."
Seems that TSF's possible end could cause more chaos than his presence.

(35,858 posts)And then a clip of him now. Both were public speaking clips. It was remarkable. He looks like he should be limping around the nursing home, except none would have him.
I think it was Lawrence who observed him from the back and remarked how even though he is 62 or 63, he is the shortest guy seated at the court table. From his viewpoint, he looked like a little old man with a shrinking spine.
Let this be a lesson to any similar fool who thinks he can evade accountability. It adds up and slaps you upside the head all at once. Even if he evaded prison, old age has got him.
Most of us will face old age, but many studies show that it is the most enjoyable phase of life, presumably because it is a time where we can do what we want. He did what he wanted all of his life and now he cant do diddly because he has to sit in a cold court room and hustle to pay lawyers.

(35,858 posts)trump is already showing signs. With dementia, the brain cells die off and this is often how the person dies--there are not enough brain cells to tell them they are hungry, for example, and so they refuse to eat. the following refers to his inability to stay awake in court:

Dr. Gartner believes Trumps sleep issues stem from dementia-related brain deterioration, suggesting Trumps inability to control his sleep-wake cycle is a sign of advanced stages.

Unfortunately Trump's probably going to live to be 90. He's too damn mean to die. His hatred, ego and a lust for revenge gives him reason to live.

(65 posts)Convicted career criminal, Russian asset, and reputed mobster, Donald "StinkyDollHands" Trump (P01135809), the Worst President in United States History, surprisingly died of an abrupt guilty conscience and terminal moral bankruptcy on [Date] at the age of [Age]. Trump's normally bloated, morbidly obese, lifeless body, found by his then, male odor wife, Malaria, was slumped over his fabled Gold-plated toilet, and dressed in what appeared to be WWII-era German Lederhosen. His hands were still desperately clutching a first edition, autographed copy of Mein Kampf. . Trump's death truly marked the end of a criminalized, tumultuous and polarizing era/error in American politics.
.
Donald J. Trump's Epitaph:
.
There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile,
.
He found a crooked sixpence against a crooked stile;
.
He wed a pornstar cat that caught a crooked rat,
.
And they all lived together in a little crooked shack.

(15,463 posts)If before the Republican convention, it would be up to the Republican convention to suddenly become a real convention, not just a showpiece. God knows who the Republican delegates would eventually chose to replace Trump. It would probably be worse chaos than Republicans have had choosing a Speaker of the House.
If Trump keeled over after being chosen by the Republican convention (as well as if Trump died after the election in November, but before December 17th) that's where the Electoral College would kick in.
What you're really voting for when you vote for President is a slate of electors committed to voting for that person for President in the Electoral College. People who (God knows why!) want Trump to be President, but who will also settle for any Republican at all over Biden, would continue to cast their votes for Trump even if Trump were dead.
Then it would be up to the Electors who had committed themselves to Trump, each individually, to choose someone else to vote for when the Electoral College meets on December 17th. Chances are, again, we'd have another Republicans-in-disarray mess and Republican electors would fail to agree on a single candidate.
That's all a moot point if Biden had won the electoral vote. If Biden hadn't won, and no one, not Biden nor any single Republican, can get a majority of Electoral votes, the election has to be decided by the House... leading to yet another shit show unless, by time the House had to vote, the November elections had given Democrats a majority of state delegations (not necessarily the same as having a majority of Representatives), in which case Biden becomes President.
I've got no idea what happens if a Presidential candidate dies after the Electoral College meets. I'd guess either the elected VP goes on to be President, or there's another situation where the House decides the election. Not sure!

As it is now, Trump himself is Biden's best aide in getting Biden votes. Biden knows this and has made Trump THE #1 issue followed by abortion rights. A winning combination. Add in Kristi's dog for the icing.

(3,698 posts)Firstly because I want him to be convicted and serve at least some of his sentence. We've come too far for him to escape justice by slipping out the back door. Besides, the idea of him being behind bars and watching his cult losing their ever loving shit on the news every day would be absolute bliss. Then, after 12-18 months of said ecstasy, he can kick the bucket as far as I'm concerned.
Secondly, it introduces an X factor to the election. We know what Trump is and we know how much he is reviled. The last thing we need is for some younger, actually coherent candidate who might appeal more to moderates to emerge from the shadows. That's just too unpredictable for my liking.

(21,828 posts)Biden is declared the winner. No more Trump to file endless nuisance court cases about a rigged election. No Trump to call for a violent overthrow of the results.
MAGA Party leaders will still insist that it was rigged, but might not have the money to pursue it in court. MAGA voters will still create sporadic violence and claim that, not only was the election rigged, but Trump was murdered before he could prove it.
But none of them will have the BS gaslighting skill that Trump perfected over his lifetime. The party will be in as much chaos as when the House couldn't decide on a Speaker.

They can easily make an AI that can spit out random all-caps rants mixed with MAGA lies mixed with QAnon conspiracy theories on Truth Social every day. In fact it would probably be more intelligent sounding than Trump does now. Then they'll reject all the debates because "the polls say he's winning by a landslide". The hardest problem will be what to do when he's required to be in court for his criminal trials. But since he's already expected to sleep the whole time they could probably get by with a Weekend at Bernie's situation.

(50,609 posts)1. The Trump camp will petition the Justice Department to suspend the trials as he is "in the hospital." They will do that. They will choose someone who's just as bad as he is, if not worse, to run as vice-president. I'm thinking MTG.
2. AI-generated campaign videos will be produced.
3. They will hire Vincent d'Onofrio to portray Trump at rallies for the rest of the campaign. Since Mr. d'Onofrio really likes to do roles that require a ton of makeup, he will not mind. Reporters will marvel at how coherent he sounds.
4. They will refuse to participate in debates because "Trump" feels it is beneath him to be on the same stage as Joe Biden.
5. If he wins the election, about a week after that they'll announce that Trump died in his sleep and MTG will become president.
