http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2012/02/have-democrats-succeeded-in-pre-destroying-romney/252407/Tuesday's installment of the left's crusade to destroy Mitt Romney began like this: an operator chirping, "I'd like to welcome you today to the Mitt Romney Would Destroy Social Security and Medicare Conference Call."
A few moments later, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, was on the line. "Thanks, everybody, for joining the call today," she began. Within minutes, she had accused Romney of "political pandering," supporting "the extreme tea party agenda," and lying to senior citizens, Hispanics and supporters of the space program.
Just another day in the life of the vast left-wing conspiracy.
Practically every day for months, Democrats and their allies have been hammering Romney like this. Unions, party committees at the national and state levels, independent groups such as American Bridge and Americans United for Change, and the Obama campaign itself have undertaken an unprecedented effort to tarnish the front-runner while virtually ignoring the rest of the GOP candidates. And it appears to be working.
But they could work on it some more and do exactly that.

(10,960 posts)Romney is at least 50-50 to win at this point in time, in my analysis of the overall situation.
Others are free to disagree with that analysis.

(59,511 posts)I don't see an analysis - just an opinion. Not even an opinion justified by cogent arguments. Not to mention, 50-50 is always suspicious, especially when backed up by nothing - though sometimes true.

(5,937 posts)It is and will take increasingly more brazen scandals to bring down a campaign.

(11,304 posts)being doing to each other. This is politics at it's worst. Do you think Romney is sitting back and doing nothing? It is better for the democrats to define Romney now. Just like the republicans from day one when President Obama was elected started trying to define him as a traitor socialist, commie, marixst and muslim. Please both sides do it. Romney will have the edge when it comes to money.

(604 posts)Yep u gotta start early cos it takes time. Ain't gonna be just one thing that discredits Romney. Gonna be the weight of numerous things.

(17,865 posts)O quite happy to let GOP bitch amongst themselves for a while. But Romney biggest danger so can't leave it too late. O already running some anti Mitt ads. But no anti Newt ads. O got his head screwed on right. Not many ads run and not much spent. The question is - when to ratchet it up? Difficult question to answer.

(276 posts)Self-inflicting wounds, gaffes, and outright lies are his trademark. Can not wait till the general to see his smug face get hit with reality of a strong disciplined and honest politician (Obama) demolish his talking points and expose his ignorance of real life.

(276 posts)I think you have it backwards. Romney himself is doing such a fine job of "self-deporting" himself to the ranks of losing the general election candidate. Another Goldwater, Dole, McCain, Bush Sr, GOP losers.
