NYT: Associates Say Adelson Open To Aiding Romney

NYT: Associates Say Adelson Open To Aiding Romney

A report from the New York Times says that billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, a major benefactor for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in the Republican race for President, is very much open to supporting former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the general election, and is willing to donate much more for the Republican nominee when they are chosen. Adelson has already given five million to Winning Our Future, a super PAC supporting Gingrich's candidacy, as has Adelson's wife, Miriam Ochsorn.

"The signals from Mr. Adelson, whose politics are shaped in large part by his support for Israel, reflect what the associates said was his deep investment in defeating President Obama and his willingness to play a more prominent role in the Republican Party and conservative causes," wrote NYT reporters Jeff Zeleny and Jim Rutenberg. "Several people who have spoken with Mr. Adelson over the past two weeks said he would most likely continue to help the group as long as Mr. Gingrich remained in the race. But, they said, he is concerned that additional deep-pocketed donors have not joined him. And, they said, his affection for and loyalty to Mr. Gingrich, who met with him here on Friday, have not blinded him to the reality that the nominating contest is tilting in Mr. Romney’s favor."

Gingrich Campaign E-Mail: 'We Still Have 45 States To Go'

The Gingrich campaign sent a fundraising e-mail to supporters Saturday, reacting to the Nevada caucuses in which Mitt Romney is expected to score an easy victory.

The e-mail says in part, with emphasis in the original:

As happens with every election cycle, the news media is focusing on the horse race of the campaign, the negative attack ads, and process of this election cycle. The media has no interest in reporting on the most important part of this race: the solutions put forth by the candidates to address the problems facing America. And we all know that Newt's the only candidate to put forth solutions bold enough to rebuild the America we love!

With the Nevada caucus held today, we still have 45 states to go - and they are going to come much more quickly. The Colorado and Minnesota caucuses are on Tuesday, just a few days from now. And we have Maine, Arizona and Michigan all before the end of February and Super Tuesday on March 6. The time is now for this campaign, and we are ramping up our nationwide infrastructure to win as many states - and delegates - as possible!

This is a reprise of the "46 States To Go" signs that the Gingrich campaign had on the night that Romney won the Florida primary. In fact, Gingrich does not have 45 states left to go — the number is 44, due to his campaign's failure to qualify for the ballot in Virginia.

don't like black folks too much. If he's this willing to switch over this soon it has more to do with personality than ideology.

Adelson is a supporter of extreme right wing Israeli parties and politicians.

And I'm positive he gave lots of $$$ to Newt because Adelson thought he was the only one stupid enough to bomb Iran.

Adelson will have him by one arm and the Donald will have him by his other arm. He will truly be a puppet.
