It is always to protect the life of the mother or in cases where the developing baby has no chance of survival. A close friend of mine was pregnant with twin girls at the same time as me. We were both so excited, until things turned bad. The week I found out one of mine wouldn't make it she also discovered that both of hers had no chance to survive. On top of it she had complications caused by Lupus that threatened her life. Her decision to abort was a difficult and painful one. But today she has a healthy baby boy and girl. When the anti-abortion crowd trots out the late term abortion thing it is so painful and cruel making mothers who already went through a devasting experience feel worse.
