15-year old girl injured in face by baton as officers evict the nation's first Occupy from DC

I was told to repost this in the General Discussion Forum as it is not considered late breaking news, although it happened less than 12 hours prior, because it is a duplicate of an article entitled "Officer struck by brick as mounted police clear tents from federal park" which is the first LBN article about the death of Occupy DC and is therefore the only correct and on-topic place to post breaking news related to the injury of protestors. So.... Here it is. I can't repost the whole thing: it contains image links and it's really news, not a discussion item.

I will not bother posting a link to the other article, as it is offensively biased.

I was also requested to provide evidence that said persons were injured in the form of witnesses, hospital report, police report, identity of the victim, etc.

By that standard of journalism, and since the witnesses (other than your citizen journalist) will be dispersed later today when the first and final Occupy encampment (October2011.org) is shut down in Freedom Plaza, and by the fact that the mainstream media refuses to cover the injuries sustained by this person or other Occupy DC'ers, and by the fact that an Occupy NYC "organizer" posted an article in the Daily Beast deriding Occupy DC as insufficiently confrontational and justifying no further attention, and therefore this story will not be covered,

I am not offended if you assume by the standards of journalistic evidence that it didn't happen. So, my apologies.

I certainly can't document exactly what happened, just report on what witnesses I spoke to saw. But I am not a mainstream news source.

A proper journalist would have gotten all the details in the OP, including the identity of the victim, and refused to cover the story otherwise.

That is why "the cop who got hit by a brick" is in every major news article nationwide and is the only authorized story about the DC eviction on LBN.

Because the intrepid authors of that piece took time to get "just the facts, ma'am."

The brick story includes (per the suggestions for a proper LBN article) :

-- The identity of the victim
-- The identity of the attacker
-- A police report
-- Evidence of a hospital stay or injuries
-- Documented statements from witnesses

etc. That is why mainstream media is so valuable and must be preserved. Because they have unquestioned journalistic integrity when it comes to researching these things. It costs money (and a press pass to demonstrate that you are an honest and ethical correspondent) to follow up and pry into such matters, too.

Which is why you will never hear about this story again

...just showed footage of the eviction, cops going so completely apeshit beating protesers that other cops pulled them off. The CNN reporter narrating seemed visibly disturbed by the violence, though of course she wasn't allowed to express it.

It was interesting because they don't follow this stuff and their take which they brought up was so far off what I think that I didn't really even try to argue with them, didn't know where to start. There are times I feel like I'm trying to explain quantum mechanics to Mistah Kottah's Sweathogs.

Instead I steered the conversation away from politics.

Of course they don't much care for my idea that you can find whatever you're looking for in scripture either..

This explains quite a bit. I alerted on this, as in fact the first few paragraphs do indeed whine about DU, and rather detract from an otherwise important part of the story.

I see no point in an SOP that is ignored whenever a host's biases see fit. I withdraw my SOP alert, and shall not send another one.

Using the content of an SOP alert, sent to you as a Host of GD, to criticize other DUers. IMO, this is abuse of your position as Host.
