(29,682 posts)TANF I could possibly see this number working on a monthly basis.

(4,723 posts)Sure, $178 mil for the drug testing companies is great, in Repuke eyes. The real goal of this is to punish, marginalize, other, and scapegoat poor people. Poor people are evil, and evil people are giving hard working peoples' money to the evil ones. Those free handouts for poor people should be going to rich people, whom God himself chose as special and righteous! Vote Repuke!

(14,337 posts)The wanted to test all state employees also. Just imagine the MONEY that would be made from both of these. There is legal precidence on random testing of CURRENT state employees without a reasonable cause about a particular employee. There was so much outrage over this one that Scottie dropped it.
These morons seem to think if you are receiving government "entitel, ents", o r work for government not a FOR PROFIT company, you must be on drugs. How about drug testing these LEGISTATORS?

(7,528 posts)The cost of a drug test runs about $50 a pop, maybe a little more. That is 3.5 million tests conducted with $178 million.
If 2% of those 3.5 million people failed, that means 70,000 people are not receiving benefits. There is no way those 70,000 people were in line to earn $60,000. That would imply they were each in line to receive 85 cents...

(20,885 posts)I questioned the $60,000.
I came back this time to wonder about the $178 M. That seems like a lot of testing to account for.
It's a nice graphic, but it doesn't make sense to me and it's tough when you're the only one.

(7,486 posts)but for different catagories. The $178 million is the cost of the entire assistance program.
The $60,000 is what the state saves after the cost of testing everybody is deducted from the savings from dropping 2% (or 4%, because another 2% doesn't complete the application/test process.) The tests cost about $30.

(13,452 posts)Of course they'll find a job during what Republicans who want this bill say is a failed job market.
Rather than turning to begging, stealing, prostituting and selling drugs, all of which make Republican buddies more fun.
