I say they will. Just like little sheep.

(26,333 posts)He must realize that he has zero chance of ever getting their nod. He's of an age where, what the heck. This might be his last chance to try and get his name on the ballot. His die hards would probably write him in, anyway.
I really think that, if this would ever happen, it would spell a major disaster for the rethuglicans, and maybe the end of the party as it exists, now.

(25,183 posts)If somehow Romney can wrap up the nomination with enough delegates to assure a first-ballot victory (and early), they will have time to psychologically adjust to being resigned to him as the nominee. The country-clubbers will spend a lot of time and money to convince the tea partiers and the fundies that they all have to rally around Mitt to get rid of that awful Obama. It will work on a goodly number of the tea partiers, but probably less of the fundies.
Now, if Romney emerges as the nominee from a raucous convention where he and the party poohbahs had to pull a few tricks out of their magic bag, then no, they will not rally around someone they felt 'stole' the nomination. Frankly, ANY nominee that would emerge from a messy convention is sure to piss off at least one of the core GOP factions.
We need that to happen.

Will Rogers said "Democrats never agree on anything, that's why they're Democrats." and "I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat."
