He must realize that he has zero chance of ever getting their nod. He's of an age where, what the heck. This might be his last chance to try and get his name on the ballot. His die hards would probably write him in, anyway.

I really think that, if this would ever happen, it would spell a major disaster for the rethuglicans, and maybe the end of the party as it exists, now.

Hatred of the [black] soshulist muslin will win out over hatred of the RINO with the magic undies. They'll lockstep like good little dittoheads.

If somehow Romney can wrap up the nomination with enough delegates to assure a first-ballot victory (and early), they will have time to psychologically adjust to being resigned to him as the nominee. The country-clubbers will spend a lot of time and money to convince the tea partiers and the fundies that they all have to rally around Mitt to get rid of that awful Obama. It will work on a goodly number of the tea partiers, but probably less of the fundies.

Now, if Romney emerges as the nominee from a raucous convention where he and the party poohbahs had to pull a few tricks out of their magic bag, then no, they will not rally around someone they felt 'stole' the nomination. Frankly, ANY nominee that would emerge from a messy convention is sure to piss off at least one of the core GOP factions.

We need that to happen.

There is always dissention in political parties.

Will Rogers said "Democrats never agree on anything, that's why they're Democrats." and "I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat."

Freepers do not think independently. RimJob and the other yahoos over at FleaRepukelick will bow before their overlord soon enough.

The lunatic right has never before been asked to stomach someone who is unambiguously not a christian. To them Romney as a mormon is just pure evil.
