LAKE JACKSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tonight the campaign of 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul sent an email to supporters regarding todays caucus results from the state of Maine. See below for a portion of comments from Ron Paul 2012 Campaign Manager John Tate.
Congressman Pauls message of liberty and Constitutional principles is resonating with Americans everywhere who are sick and tired of the status quo establishment, and we plan to take this campaign on to Super Tuesday and beyond.
Ron Paul will win the most delegates out of Maine tonight.
In fact, he will probably even win the beauty contest straw poll the media has already called for Mitt Romney even before all the votes have been tallied.
In Washington County where Ron Paul was incredibly strong the caucus was delayed until next week just so the votes wouldnt be reported by the national media today.
Of course, their excuse for the delay was snow.
Thats right. A prediction of 3-4 inches that turned into nothing more than a dusting - was enough for a local GOP official to postpone the caucuses just so the results wouldnt be reported tonight.
This is MAINE were talking about. The GIRL SCOUTS had an event today in Washington County that wasnt cancelled!

"Out of Maine's 258,000 registered Republicans, nearly 5,600 cast ballots in the weeklong contest."
Wpw. What a resounding Romney win!

(12,037 posts)I don't know of anything else that was cancelled yesterday -- we did have snow, but come on, a few inches?
The polls show huge support for Paul, and it sounds like the GOP bigwigs just don't want to admit it.

(14,881 posts)The prediction of 3-4" was a dusting for these parts. And all we ended up with was a dusting of a dusting. I think it was deliberate; the GOP using GOP tactics on...the GOP. amazing.
and when the rest of the votes are counted, will Mitten's "win" again turn into actual loss? simply amazing.

(25,415 posts)It wasn't even a dusting of a dusting, it was practically nothing. But in Maine, I would expect Romney to win. He was a Governor of a New England state. Are there really that many Paul supporters in Maine?

(9,902 posts)PORTLAND, Maine Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney narrowly edged Texas Congressman Ron Paul in Maines nonbinding GOP presidential preference poll on Saturday, ending a string of defeats for the Republican front-runner.
According to unofficial results announced Saturday evening by Maine Republican Party Chairman Charlie Webster, Romney took 39 percent of votes during statewide caucuses held during the last few weeks. Paul finished second at 36 percent.
Its good news. Im hopeful this ends Romneys little slide, Maine House Speaker Robert Nutting said shortly after the announcement. Romney is the best candidate to beat President Obama in the fall.
Peter Cianchette, the Maine chairman for the Romney campaign and a former candidate for governor, said his candidate received broad support across the state despite a strong push by Paul.

scroll to the bottom for the comments section. It will give you an idea as to how the Maine republicans feel about this. Many of them are not pleased that it was called before all the votes were in. In a state like Maine, a vote shouldn't be called before all the votes are in because of the number of voters. One could win by just a few votes.

In some ways, this could turn out to be a good thing. We might finally get some right-wing grassroots support for transparent, open & honest voting. They don't like getting their votes stolen from them either. And if we have honest voting, I think the Dems will win in the end, because there are a lot more of us than them.

(37,540 posts)Ms. Houston's unfortunate death stepped all over this non-story. But, assuming Paul has the votes in Washington County, this attempted hi-jacking of the caucus election, could motivate an even stronger Paul turnout. The Washington Country Republican is a different breed of Republican than the type found down in Southern Maine. If Ron gets his turnout, the story of his comeback will amplify a lot more than Mitt's non-win.
