I have a confession: I hate the Grammys, but...

I hate the Grammy Awards and never watch the show. But I caught the opener with Springsteen and then Bruno Mars...WOW! Gotta admit, super impressive performances.

(mods, forgive me, but i'm not sure where we're supposed to be posting this kind of stuff).

Hate award shows of all kinds...and tonight I am watching the Grammy's. I don't know if it's Whitney Houston's death or (another confession) LL Cool J's hosting that's drawn me to the show. It's been really good so far...

With Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt, bad there will be one for Whitney by Jennifer Hudson and Chaka Khan.

The Beach Boys, Springsteen, Glen Campbell.... this is a wonderful show tonight.

I haven't seen anything offensive or outrageous, just great music so far.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN RELEASES RECESSION-THEMED ‘WE TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN’ VIDEO: The day after President Obama’s reelection team included Bruce Springsteen’s new single “We Take Care of Our Own” in the list of songs Obama will use on the campaign trail, the Boss released a sing-along-friendly music video for the song.

Why the hate?

I am an avid watcher of Grammys and VH1 Awards because of live performances. Last night's performances were okay, not great. Nicki Minage was horrible. Compared to Grammys past, this one was weak

I guess I'm just a Grammy kinda guy...I loved what I saw (although it wasn't much), but I NEVER watch the Grammys. Maybe I'm just an old fart and liked all the retro stuff.

I appreciated the fact that she is able to simply stand on a stage, absent any excessive physical or vocal gymnastics, and deliver a song in such a straightforward, compelling way!

Totally kidding...except for that I had the same surgery. I was giving my 30th High School reunion speech. My voice was already raspy. But, as I was wrapping it up, my voice stopped. Couldn't utter a word. Flew home and saw a doc, had surgery on my vocal chords a couple of days later. Couldn't speak for a week. Not a word, no sound. Adele is either pumping it up, or had it way worse than I did.

Either way, don't belittle this...anyone reading this, try NOT UTTERING A SOUND for a week or two. I did it. Every communication was on a note pad. Quite an amazing experience.

And whispering is not an option either, because that is actually harder on the voice than speaking or singing outright.
