When I was a young clown, the good fathers of the order of Holy Cross taught us young men that . . .

. . . . sex without the intent to procreate was recreational, and was sinful.

Why, we asked, did God make us the only species for which sex was pleasurable?

Well, they told us, God made homosexuality pleasurable, too, but we all know that's not right.

I stopped being a practicing Catholic not long at all after my graduation from Notre Dame High School.

though that word was completely unknown at the time and wouldn't begin to be known, along with "sexism" for half a decade more years and I was in the "less happenin' " Midwest, and didn't really hear it for at least a decade and a half more.
