(I live in "The People's Republic of Falls Church {grin})

We should gin up support for a secessionist movement in The Old Dominion.
Here's my pitch: Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church and Loudoun should break off and form a new state -- North Virginia.
Tell all the knuckle-draggers downstate "You want to "keep the wimmens in their place?" Fine. We're outta here. Your tax base is now Richmond and Hampton Roads. Good Luck"

Sound feasible?

if you could get a couple of counties to the west to join in, you could even add yourselves on to West Virginia!

Also, ever notice how Arlington's boundaries match up nearly perfectly with DC's, forming a ten-mile-square diamond? There's a reason for that. Originally Virginia ceded that land to DC, just as Maryland did with the District as it is today. They then took it back during the run-up to the Unpleasantries Between the States. All you have to do is get a judge to find that they had no right to do such a thing, and you're good to go, marriage equality and all!

yes, that one should definitely be part of the knuckle-draggers enclave.

Yep, that was (and maybe still is) the tagline/motto for Virginia.....

I lived in the DC area and you would see ads on billboards, tv commercials and even bumperstickers....

Irony.....

It's mostly prisons and government workers. There's a few winemakers, 1000s of shopping malls and some local produce which I really don't want to boycott.

in Richmond just makes my Christmas every year. There are some good things about Virginia, I think, except for the R's.

I think the land is fertile, or used to be, before they paved over it. And the weather used to be lovely. Not so much anymore.

pretty big furniture building industry down in the Danville area but that's a thing of the past. They still build some ships, I think, at the Norfolk shipyard. Peanuts and tobacco are cash crops and cigarette manufacturing is still around.

Wineries are becoming a bigger thing and there are quite a few of those now.
