a friend called President Obama a Muslim and said he didn't understand how he became president.
I calmly explained that he was born in Hawaii and he was ELECTED by the people and is doing a good job as president and I said he was more GODLY than any of the creeps running to replace him.
This is the reply I got.
MORE GODLY? LOL WOW REALLY ROFL YEAH HES SUCH A HIPPOCRITE LOL I CANT BELEIVE YOUR BUYING INTO HIS LIES AND NO HE WASNT BORN IN HAWAII NOR DOES HE HAVE TRUE RELATIVES IN ELDORADO LIKE THE MEDIA SAID HE DID AND YES HE IS MUSLIM HE DID ADMIT THAT AT A MEETING HES NO CHRISTIAN AND I DO NOT BELIEVE IN ALLAH THAT WOULD BE LIKE PRAYING TO BUDDHA AND EVEN YOU KNOW THAT HE ISNT A REAL god TO THEM WE ARE CATTLE THATS WHAT THEIR BIBLE CALLED THE KORAN OR HOWEVER YOU SPELL IT SAYS"

(82,849 posts)You need to contract your circle of friends. Just a smidgen. "Deranged" just scratches the descriptive surface for this all-caps screed.

(26,001 posts)The all-caps screaming of lies and mistruths mean said friend is over-the-cliff/beyond-the- pale.
There is no "discussing" with these folks. "Deranged" is doubtless the right word.

This person is too far gone to be a friend to anyone. He is completely unreachable at this point.
Introduce him to Mr. Block and be done with him.

(113,966 posts)"aside from this lunacy"???? seriously, your nephew is so far beyond the pale that, even if a relative, I would wave a relieved bye-bye.
just because they are relatives doesn't mean we have to associate with them, acknowledge them, or try to pretend that, apart from this one small quirk, they really are okay.
remember the adage "your friends are god's way of apologizing for your relatives."

sit down with him and read something you both like, and talk about it.
sit down with him and read some news that affects him personally (NOT politics). Talk about how he figures it out.
sit down with him, some writing he respects, and this screed, and see if he can explain it. Don't criticize the writing, he'll see that for himself, just treat it like it's absolutely straight intellectual argument, but sloppily written. Can he analyze it? Can he back it up?

I've ended friendships over receiving this disgusting stuff in my own email acct. They actually believe all the shit is real sadly enough.

(11,064 posts)You have a number of choices, including a choice to play one or more mind games in return. You don't have to choose to take his inane comments seriously. Nor do you have to choose to be frustrated his comments.
For one type of game to be played, you have to give the impression that you really mean it when you say something. Not toungue in cheek, but you really mean it. Just think of those "religious" people who may knock on your door from time to time with the I'm-so-happy-to-see-you-because-I'm-going-to-irritate-you-with-my-bullshit-type smiles.
What would happen if you were to tell him that not only have you learned that learned that he is right but that other top-level politicians, like Bush, were actually born in Germany. To make it credible and not spoil the fun, you need a "hook," something to say that almost makes sense. What if you were to say that you know that Bush was actually born in Germany because he hired Rumsfeld and they kept talking about the "fatherland." Since when to real Americans refer to America as the "fatherland?"
If you don't want to be annoyed and want to keep your friendship, just play mind-games back at him.
Alternatively, if you don't want to play games and want to associate with people who are sincere, then just choose to expand your circle of friends.

(8,020 posts)I'm running into hysteria that is waaaayyy beyond the already-high level of the past three years. Facebook, viral emails, LTTE comments...
They are re-treading emails and lies from 2009...
The dumb bastards have been told.. in increasingly shrill tones... that if Obama is re-elected, that it's the end of this country.
The Godless Commies will take over.
The Constitution will be thrown out.
The next election will be cancelled.
I fear for Obama's safety.

(9,854 posts)I had an encounter earlier tonight that wasn't about the same stuff, but was equally CRAZY.
How old is your nephew? The scary thing to me is that my encounter was with an 18 year old girl who spewed the craziest conservative trash you have ever heard.

(185 posts)They say they don;t like him, because he's not allowing enough oil drilling, he's cutting spending on the military, he's some rabid environmentalist, he's some type of crypto-communist, he's the anti-christ, he's a crypto-muslim, etc etc.
I dislike certain aspects of Obama, but its for none of the fake reasons they dislike him for. In fact, if some of the reasons they dislike him for were true, I might actually like him more, but that isn't the case, because they're psychos, and they live in their own reality.
He actually equated fracking and offshore drilling with renewable energy in a speech recently. He's a good Republican, but I don't think they realize it, because most of them are just a bunch of racist that can't stand that a black guys in office.

(24,382 posts)I'm very curious to hear how they "figure" this shit out. I thought we had our secret muslim/gay agenda well hidden. Yes, I hate to say it America, the muslims and the gays are in fact working together. You would not believe that it's true with all the violence toward gay people in some countries that are islamic, but it's true.
Just a cover.
We're going to take over the country, make you pray to Allah, and marry another man/woman. This is of course after we steal a nuclear weapon from America and give it to Iran.
A freeper just wizzed itself reading that, and it will totally be telling its friends about that.

(31,997 posts)The only thing that makes things raise in price as they get older is greed. America is going down the tubes more every day. The other thing that sticks in my craw, is when you work very hard doing something for someone and they say "Thanks until you're better paid" and the person saying that is usually using you just wish people could see that sooner.
I love my sister, but dang she married an ass and her two of her 4 sons are sooooo irritating
