This is a serious statement by Bill Maher. Seriously. I'm shocked that this quasi-Libertarian would really double down like this.

I think there should be limits to political donations, but since there are none, this is pretty nice.

Of course, Yahoo! probably paid him a million to do the show, but still. It is impressive.

He did so while making a very good point. If Bill Maher could afford one million dollars than the rest of you rich liberals (in Hollywood)can do the same. I respect Bill more than ever for this.

I do seem to remember him railing about money in politics back in the 90s though.

But hey, super pacs are the name of the game now, so it is what it is.

he is making a massive statement. The statement is that he is doing it "because he can"
not because he thinks it is alright that he can.
And, in the face of pablum idiots running with fox educated pablum idiots voting he is showing his support for President Obama because any alternative terrifies him.

I don't like folks faulting him and second guessing or diminishing what he is doing.

So what if to him this is like one of us giving a lot less.
He is stepping up and making a splash.
I love him all the more for it.

On the one hand, I'm glad someone with Maher's abilities supports Obama... on the other...

One million dollars to a super-pac. Since the Citizens United ruling our politics have become almost like an auction, except instead of bidding on goods, people are bidding on politicians who, through their vote, will make many of the most important decisions in our governing policies. They do not do this for no return and certainly not without hope of profit. This is Capitalism unleashed to it's fullest idiocy.

Money can indeed buy votes - and politicians, there's very little it can't buy. The more we allow the unfettered greed and arrogance of the wealthy to control our Government, the more ground we lose for the middle class and especially for the poor.

Good that Maher is giving money to Obama's campaign... but this will quickly be outdone by another nitwit offering ten times that to Santorum, or Romney, or even Gingrich. If it comes down to a battle of dollar for dollar, our side will lose. It's as simple as that.

God I hate politics.
