Dan “Love Child” Burton, Defender of Marriage

Apparently, when the Republicans talk about “Family Values,” they’re talking about the 2-for-the-price-of-1 sort of values.

H.R. 875, the Marriage Protection Act of 2011, is a bill before Congress that would forbid any court from ruling on the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act. In case you don’t recall, the Defense of Marriage Act provides unequal protection under law (14th Amendment violation) and doesn’t provide full faith and credit to the marriages of other states (Article IV violation). The fairly reasonable assumption of H.R. 875 is that, if its constitutionality were to be ruled upon, DOMA would be struck down; therefore this bill keeps DOMA away from the courts in a last-ditch effort to preserve the law and prevent federal recognition of same-sex marriage.

Guess who introduced H.R. 875 in an effort to “protect marriage”? None other than Dan Burton, who fathered a love child out of wedlock while still married to his first wife.

Hey, you’ve got to know trouble to stay out of it, right? Well, no, not really, not at all. Dan Burton is just a schmuck.
