Gallup: 51% think OBAMA is too Lib while agreeing in 47% with his positions on their issues

Poll: Half see Obama as 'too liberal;' many agree with him
By David Jackson, USA TODAY

(from the Gallup content of the article: )

Americans' views of Obama's ideology have changed significantly since the 2008 campaign, with the majority now seeing him as too liberal. That shift probably is a result of Americans' greater familiarity with his issue positions as well as his policies over the last several years.

Currently, Americans are less likely to perceive either of Obama's likely Republican general election opponents as too conservative; however, that could change as they campaign and become more familiar to the public. That could especially be the case with Santorum, who is the least well-known of the candidates and has taken conservative positions on moral values issues, among others.

It may be seen as an advantage for the GOP that Americans perceive the main Republican candidates as being less extreme to the right than Obama is to the left. But that may not matter as long as Americans continue to be about as likely to say they agree with Obama as the Republicans on the issues they care about.

Indeed, the 2012 general election contest remains highly competitive, with Obama in statistical ties with both Romney and Santorum among registered voters.

because the media has spent decades making it seem like a dirty word. Yet, on individual issues many Americans take liberal stands.

The corporate media will not do that for us.

We have to start engaging in political conversation with Americans that are tuned out of politics. We have to find a way to stoke their self interest in what it means to be an American, and how we can protect our way of life. Make it patriotic again to pay attention.

I realize that discussing politics is considered rude by many in this country, but if we don't start educating people we will continue down this path, and there's a good possibility that many Americans will blame liberal economic policies.

Simply spending more money is not necessarily liberal values in action (esp. in America). If that money is increasingly diverted to conservative interests (corporate and the wealthy) and away from liberal interests (middle class, working class, and poor) then it's NOT liberal policies being espoused and imposed or liberal values being pursued.

So many right wingers equate massive spending with "liberal", and the thinking just stops right there. Tragic and sad.

21% of Democrats thought Santorum was too liberal. 19% of Democrats also thought Romney was too liberal.

Only 5% of Republicans thought Santorum was too liberal. I hate to say it, but there appears to be about 20% of Democrats polled in that survey who are completely clueless.

... creating and publishing the results of misleading, biased and incomprehensible polls as long as I can remember.

Of course, this is like what you can see anywhere on the net, MORONS who apparently don't know the ACTUAL MEANING of the words Marxist or Socialist, insisting Obama is one.

In reality, he's a center-right moderate at best.

Conservatives have turned the country so far to the right, that Obama's policies are considered too liberal by a majority.
How can that be? Political culture has been on a rightward drift since Reagan. Talk radio acts as the propaganda arm of the GOP and the media's tendency to offer "balanced" stories allows manipulation, which conservatives use to maximum effect.
