I need some help with a decision about voting in the Michigan Reptilian Primary...

I'm waffling... I was considering voting for Satan (Santorum) to throw as much crap at Romney as possible.

I have a couple of worries:

1. What if Satan (Santorum) were to actually become President...

2. I don't have the same deep seated hatred and fear of Romney as I did of Bush back in 2000 which is the last time I crossed over (and voted for Mc-lame cause even then he was a superior choice to Bush.)

What do you folks think? Part of me says it is irrelevant as neither Romney nor Santorum is going to be President. And neither is going to beat Obama. But I also want the Reptilians to be in the worst position possible come fall.

And should I be care at all? Santorum is worse than Romney so my vote would be full blow trouble making. I'm not sure I'm OK with that for myself...

Except I hate Romney as much as I hated Bush -- both are cut from the same cloth, the only difference being that Romney doesn't seem to have killed all of his brain cells with alcohol and cocaine.

Which is the lesser of the evils? Probably Romney.

Which is the best strategic vote to help Obama? Probably Santorum -- keep the clown car running another few miles, keep them slinging mud at each other so they don't have the energy to sling it at the POTUS.

I'd never try to convince anyone else to not vote, tomorrow, but I can't step over that line, as tempting as it might be to help throw them into chaos. I was way too vocal about them crossing over in 2008.

...you wouldn't be able to live with if they actually got into the Oval, just because they seem more beatable.

Personally, I think this idea of democrats voting for Santorum is just as crazy as Santorum himself.
What if, goddess forbid, some tragic horror happens to the president and Santorum ends up in the Oval as a result? Could you live with that?

If you are going to vote for one of the reptiles, and I think that's just dumb, then vote for the one who you could live with if he became president.

He would either have to win the presidency, be the vice president of a republican president, the speaker of the house, and down the line. I do not see him ever holding any of these offices.

I think that it would be really good to see Romney lose Michigan, We should start a contest to see exactly how he would spin that if
he lost.

I would like Santorum to win Michigan, However he does seem to suffer from the same delusions of grandeur as Gingrich, which is quite normal for suffers of paranoia. I think a win in Michigan may bring out enough of the crazy to finish him off early which is too bad as he would be the ideal candidate to run against Obama. Unfortunately, I think the chance of the pope posing in Playgirl would be a safer bet than Santorum winning the nomination.

A wise friend in MI said:

"I am begging all of my Michigan Democratic friends to NOT VOTE in the Republican primary tomorrow. If you are tempted to vote for Santorum in some effort to skew the results and push the candidate through who you think will not be able to compete against Obama, all I can say is, REMEMBER GEORGE W. BUSH. He was the joke candidate 12 years ago, and I and many people I know were HAPPY that he was nominated because we thought he had no chance to win. Please don't help made the such an awful thing happen again. A President Santorum would be the WORST possible outcome."

Follow your gut.

there are all sorts of possible unintended consequences, and "strategic voting" brings out the worst of them, simply because there are so many bad ones and so few good ones.

Imagine, for instance, that things are so close that the convention gets brokered and Jeb Bush ends up beating the crap out of Obama.

Just let nature take its course and work to beat whoever the Republican challenger may be.

But you are increasing the chances that Obama will remain president by voting for Santorum.

2. Romney has the same problem that Bush had but worse. He needs to convince everyone he's "severly conservative" and will go out his way to do so.

I don't believe he can win the nomination much less be elected President.

The weaker Rmoney is the stronger our entire party is.

The primary is open for a reason. If it were a closed primary I would not be voting and I would be against misrepresenting yourself just to screw with the system. Our '08 primary was all screwed up and I think we deserve a say in one nomination within an 8 year period. This is your only chance since '04 (assuming you didn't cross over in '08).

Just do it. The delegates are allocated proportionally so you can help take one away from Mitt and drag the mudslinging out a little longer.

Edit to add: What if Rmoney becomes President? Won't you hate yourself for not voting against him in the primary?

President Obama still has a better chance of beating Rmoney than he does Christie, Jeb, Rubio... Not worth the effort to go vote for this turd, especially since you'll likely start getting right-wing propaganda mailings and phone calls on top of it.

He suggested that Democrats stay completely out and let Romney win. He thinks Romney is a weak candidate. He said if there's chaos now, it could lead to a brokered convention and someone like Marco Rubio being selected, who would be much harder for Obama to beat. I don't always agree with Hartmann but he might have a good point.

Tue Feb 28, 2012, 12:12 AM

as he would attract little of the tea partier vote and even less of the fundie vote, but we stand the best chance from a Repuke convention where NO ONE has a first ballot victory. If Romney wins Michigan, the odds go up that he gets that first ballot victory, and while that's not fatal to us in the fall, I really do like the consequences of the Tampa convention that is a knock-down, drag-out fight for what will be a worthless nomination.

I didn't feel that way a week ago, I was seriously worrried about Santorum getting a first-ballot victory, but he's stuffed his foot in his mouth so very many times in the last several days that I think he needs all the help he can get to force a deadlocked convention. It really is our dream scenario for the Rethugs.
