Some years ago everyone wanted to just keep quiet about the cruel attacks on DU-ers by Fred Grady and his misfits. But bullies only stop when you stand up to them. If they are going to make sure that the voters in Nebraska know all about Steve Dawes by trying to make him an object of derision, then it's proper to make sure that the locals also know all about Fred Grady and the out-of-state wingnuts who are pestering a candidate for local office.

as someone who does this sort of thing, i have to tell you that purple is a feminine color. it works very well for female candidates. if there is a strong local association, that will likely influence people's perceptions. but if people are telling you to change it, that is likely not the case.
i also would not refer to a university that i did not graduate from.
it gets boring that candidate all use red and blue, but those are also colors that are represented in nature, and appeal to most people.
green is a good color to stand out from the pack, and actually, i think it looks great with the purple. i know that would up your printing costs, but...
