(6,002 posts)have gone without...they won't give it up so easily for any president. Next comes single payer, to finally lower the never ending cost increases. It will come, because it simply must, there's no better alternative...it makes sense more and more.

(16,646 posts)Up ending HCR would only accelerate it.
My biggest concern is that it will come, and the GOP will bring it to us.

(6,002 posts)Health care cannot be about profit, other nations have been far more progressive than ours and have led the way.
The GOP is in death throes because they are about promoting wealth and well being for only the wealthy. We can't live that way as a society. The GOP will have to change drastically if it survives...we are already witnessing what has become a party of fools, more of a circus than a political arm. Even they see it.

(16,646 posts)Between the VA, and federal employees, as well as the imbedded cost of health care in the Military Industrial Defense Complex, and the subsequent equivalent effects on state budgets, not to mention the 1% wanna bees that will soon find out they can't afford health care anymore, the government itself will feel the need to get control of health CARE costs. The only way they can accomplish that is through some equivalent of single payer. They can "hide" it a bit like some european countries by still having insurance companies in name. But they will dictate so much of the health care industry that they will be the defacto controller of health care.
The very REASON for single payer is to give the government control over the costs.

(6,002 posts)no matter what the cost. Single Payer is undoubtedly inevitable, but it will not happen under the GOP, otherwise it would have happened already. It has always made sense. The giveaway to the insurance cos. and big pharma is thanks to lobbyist and corporate control's influence in our gov't. That must change.

(16,646 posts)They get tort reform out of it (ya can't sue the gubberment)
They can get direct "research" payments to pharma
They can make it have huge co-pays, so that there is still "after market insurance" to sell with vastly lower risk.
They passed Medicare Part D didn't they?
When they are screaming for it on Wall Street, because the major internationals are tired of competing with other companies that don't have any of these burdens to handle, they'll pass it.
