But they also conceded the letter raised more questions than it answered, and Wildstein's motives may be suspect.
"The allegations being made by Mr. Wildstein through his attorney lends credence to the skepticism about the Governor's statement," said state Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex), a chairman of the joint legislative committee investigating the lane closures. It validates the line of questioning the committee has chosen to pursue."
"I am curious (Wildstein) has documents that at a minimum question the governor's veracity, yet he did not provide them to the committee when he was subpoenaed," Wisniewski added.

(11,238 posts)He's cut from the same ratfucking mold as Karl Rove and Lee Atwater, and once Christie dissed him so publicly he had a real ax to grind. I wouldn't be surprised if he had this in his back pocket the whole time, to use if he ever needed it.

(50,549 posts)Steve Kornacki, knowing Wildstein, has said as much on numerous occasions. He would know full well that he would need some explosive evidence, real evidence, to get immunity, imo, evidence linking Christie and, possibly, Samson directly to, at the very least, knowledge of the closure and the reasons for it.
Releasing the letter, addressed to the Port Authority, to the media is a very interesting tactic, imo. By releasing it, he is ensuring the Port Authority won't offer indemnification now for sure. Were they to do so, it would smell big time. So, why did he release it? To fire 'shots across the bow' to both Christie and Samson, letting them know he isn't going down alone, imo. He wants immunity, if he has solid evidence he might well get it. The ball is in Kelly's court now, will she be looking for immunity as well and, if so, does she have better evidence to offer than Wildstein? Time will tell I guess.
