Josh Marshall, TPM: Email attacking Wildstein shows Christie team "in worse shape than I'd realized"

From Twitter:

https://twitter.com/joshtpm/status/429857068590182400

After re-reading Team Christie's scorched earth email, I think they're in much, much worse shape than I'd realized http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/worse-than-i-realized

From that TPM editor's blog:

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/worse-than-i-realized

One person said we should see the release of this email as a message to funders. If so, the message seems to be "I'm desperate and losing my mind."

This email/memo/press release doesn't read like a methodological takedown. It reads more like something dashed off in a climate of frenzied but impotent rage.

-snip-

It's genuinely shocking that a sitting governor and presidential aspirant finds himself or his key defenders writing a sentence like this: "He was publicly accused by his high school social studies teacher of deceptive behavior."

I mean, is that a joke? Or, he's someone who "made moves that were not productive"?

Seriously, who wrote this?

-snip-

More reactions to that bizarre email, from Twitter:

Philip Gourevitch, a staff writer at the New Yorker:

https://twitter.com/PGourevitch/status/429823046334304256

So Christie's big defense is: I know Wildstein, Wildstein was a friend of mine, and he's loathsome lying slime - believe me, he was my guy.

Jennifer Epstein, White House reporter at Politico:

https://twitter.com/jeneps/status/429822964830584833

"There's no escaping high school," @mikezapler writes of Christie. Same for me since I went to Christie's h.s. http://politi.co/1j0tGZi

Chris Hayes:

Shorter Christie: the guy we appointed to the Port Authority to be our eyes & ears is an untrustworthy sociopath: http://www.businessinsider.com/christie-david-wildstein-gwb-bridge-scandal-knew-2014-2

Oliver Willis of Media Matters:

that guy is totally horrible and untrustworthy, which is why i gave him a senior job in my administration. vote christie for president.

Thank you for posting that, as we were discussing his weight gain at my house on Saturday.

I won't destroy it with a spoiler, so if you are curious about the possible cause of Christie's weight gain, you just might find a clue in these photographs.

That actually undercuts Christie because he previously said that because he was a high school jock he didn't travel in the same circles as Wildstein and suddenly he remembers this about Wildstein from over 30 years ago. Then he actually hired him for an important position in spite of knowing about past "deceptive behavior". Really.

Social Studies Teacher accusing him of "deception"

What the hell is this? Christie uses some incident in high school, maybe 25/30 years , to attack someone?
Who wrote this ??

Think about this..What will the leaders of the Republican Party think of this kind of defense?
I am talking about the so called "intelligent" leaders..(there might be one or two) maybe.
Marshall is correct. Christie is in much worse shape then people know to write this or approve this crap.

13. That position was actually created
Sun Feb 2, 2014, 12:18 PM

specifically for Wildstein.

(CNN) -- Give him a position at the top of the agency; he's a good friend of the governor.

That's how David Wildstein was introduced to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in 2010, according to a former employee with extensive knowledge of the agency's hiring practices.

Soon after, Wildstein was named the director of Interstate Capital Projects, a title that previously had not existed at the bi-state agency, setting in motion a career that would eventually place the former political blogger at the center of the lane closures controversy at the George Washington Bridge.
