Call it an $8 million gift.
When New Jersey landed this years Super Bowl, it gave the National Football League a major tax break. The state agreed to suspend the sales tax on all tickets and parking for todays big game a gift that will cost the state $8 million in lost revenues, officials said.
And thats not the only cost the state is picking up.
All the security and police presence needed for the game including the estimated 700 New Jersey state troopers who will be patrolling in and around MetLife Stadium today will also not cost the NFL a dime. The state said it is covering all of its public safety expenses for the game, which is expected to include hundreds of hours in overtime.

(102,494 posts)with open stadiums? The one % will be in the closed boxes, but the rest--who must spend an inordinant amount of money and effort to get a ticket, just to freeze out in the cold?
I hear secondary scalping market $$ is down--probably for that reason alone. Home tv looks much better.

(5,417 posts)Football is meant to be played in the cold, not a sterile environment.
I don't know if you are a football fan, but a ton of the classic NFL games were played in the cold.
And I'll agree that having in in NY means a lot of people who can not afford luxury boxes will be outside, but the temp at game time should be around 40 degrees. I've been to games in much colder weather and had a great time.
Also, if scalping prices are down, that helps people to afford a ticket, and I think there are a lot of people who go to the Superbowl who can't afford to fly and pay for a hotel, but can afford to go to a local game. Since NY, and the North East is close to so many people, I think they deserve to have a local game to go to.

That said, neither Seattle nor Denver are the sites and I surely would not spend countless thousands of dollars to attend in New Jersey.
So take your condescension elsewhere... I'm the wrong person to imply to be a "cold weather wimp"
