My favorite "fancy" restaurant V Note in NYC. Outstanding vegan food at reasonable prices for its quality. I urge all New Yorkers to try it. And use the coupon sites Savored and Groupon for discounts.

(594 posts)$20+ for a plate of vegetables?
And I hear servers don't like customers who use coupons because they're usually miserly tippers.

(2,331 posts)It's appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees, brunch items and desserts made with the finest quality vegetarian/vegan ingredients, including meat substitutes. I'm glad to have had a chance to educate you about what vegan food consists of these days. : )
Also you'd be surprised what chefs can make with "just vegetables".
As for tipping, the servers have nothing to complain about. I tip extra when I use coupons.

(594 posts)Do you know how many cute little veggies are murdered to create those scrumptious dishes?
Sorry, just playin' you.

Tofu Salmon & Mushroom Scallops 21
beet marinated tofu topped with a dill leek tartar sauce, lobster mushroom scallops, black rice, fennel, broccolini in a white wine mushroom reduction
I'm not vegan, and not even vegetarian, but I like (most) vegetarian food. I have to cook vegetarian a lot, so I like to look at menus at good vegetarian restaurants for ideas.
Have you ever eaten at Dirt Candy in NYC? I haven't, but I bought the cookbook for my daughter-in-law. Some wild stuff.
If you're ever in Chicago, try Green Zebra, or Karyn's on Green

(2,331 posts)Did eat at Quintessence, a raw restaurant, yesterday. Had a mock eggs Benedict that my omnivore companion agreed was almost impossible to believe it wasn't cooked. Simply scrumptious. And with my 40 for 20 Groupon we paid $3 and change for it. Left a $15 tip.

(64,425 posts)I didn't know NYC had that many weak, pale, sickly hippies living there to keep a place like that afloat. And Groupon, etc carry coupons for the place? Sounds popular. Weird.
I refuse to use the sarcasm thingy. I'm jealous of you having such a place.
