But will he be able to beat "moderate Mitt"???
Only if the Gov of Ca pushes for age 50 SocSec.

(27,456 posts)I seriously doubt he'd even run, except for another term for governor.

(40,416 posts)Brown? Not gonna run.
Warren? Not gonna run.
Clinton? Not running yet.
GOTV 2014!
We all now know that whatever Democratic President is elected in 2016 will fail in their agenda without a Democratic congress. So the question of who runs in 2016 is totally irrelevant at this point. If Dems don't take back the House this year, or at least make a big dent in the Republican majority, our party is going to be in big trouble in 2016.
And if the GOP gains this year, we're in very real trouble.
Fuck 2016 right now.
GOTV 2014! It's all that matters now.

(3,572 posts)The back room maneuvering for 2016 is at a fever pitch. Maybe earlier than ever before. The Clinton's, if Hillary knows she's not going to run, want to be kingmakers. That means making it look early like she's in the race - period. Many believe it's just the opposite, the early maneuvering is a charade to play kingmaker for whomever the Clinton's want to "anoint."
Some, knowing this might be the case are paranoid and they are planning races earlier than usual because Hillary may know good and well she's not running and some are saying plan as if she's NOT going to run rather than ASSUME she is. Let's not forget that some of those closest to her when she was at State, and many close personal friends want her to not have to go through a national race as she approaches 70 years old. The holdout we don't know about? (But maybe Hillary already knows.) What does Chelsea think? She is, without question, her closest adviser. Yes, more so than Bill.

(40,416 posts)I do not agree with political dynasties. The US presidency is not a fucking inherited office, neither by blood nor marriage.
Plus, the UK regularly elects a new PM on less than six weeks notice. Many other countries do too. It's only in the USA that we are in perpetual national elections. That is a really fucking bad idea. Why would anybody want that?

(3,572 posts)I even mentioned in another thread that I have to agree with Barbara Bush (gasp!) that there are more than just two families we can find presidential material. No to Jeb and no to Hillary.

(22,785 posts)I was with Jerry throughout the 1992 campaign. He's my Governor. He just responded to this idea recently and was clear: he's not running for President again. That said, he would have been a great President in 1992.

(14,040 posts)and he was my guy. I heard him speak at F&M University and I really liked his ideas and him. I especially liked his idea of an across the board tax rate for everyone (I think it was 14%).

(22,785 posts)Jerry asked me to be his advance man on the second day of the convention. I got a call at my room at the Midtown Hyatt (now a Trump property, can you believe it?) the night before. It was an honor I'll always treasure.
Jerry's crowd were all the radicals including Tom Hayden, Oliver Stone (he spoke mid-day at the convention so it wasn't televised and called for the abolition of the CIA), and so many great people including ACT-UP activists (dear friends of mine, many of whom I am sorry to say didn't make it and I still love them fiercely in my heart).
Jerry is now the youngest and the oldest Governor in our California history. He will be re-elected in a blazing landslide. He is the finest public servant I have ever known in my lifetime other than Tom Hayden who I also truly admire.

(53,112 posts)There could well be a different nominee, but it's not going to be someone who has run multiple times before.
