Beef Recall: Rancho Feeding Corp. Recalls A Year's Worth Of Beef Products

PETALUMA, Calif. (AP) — A Northern California company is recalling more than 8.7 million pounds of beef products because it processed diseased and unhealthy animals without a full federal inspection, federal officials said Saturday.

That's just over a year's worth of meat products processed by Rancho Feeding Corp., which has been under scrutiny by the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service. The agency said that without full inspection, the recalled products are unfit for human consumption.

Here's a list of the recalled products.

The products were processed from Jan. 1, 2013, through Jan. 7, 2014, and shipped to distribution centers and retail stores in California, Florida, Illinois and Texas. They include beef carcasses, oxtail, liver, cheeks, tripe, tongue and veal bones.

Last month the company recalled more than 40,000 pounds of meat products produced on Jan. 8 that also didn't undergo a full inspection.

If they recalled all these "extra" beef products because of the possibility of the cows being diseased, what about all the steaks and ground beef that came from them?

that would eliminate the threat of such a thing entering our food system, poisoning our bodies and potentially killing our children. Hmmm...something that would ease the suffering of so many and ease the ongoing destruction of our planet to waste resources to produce such a thing.

Oh yeah, there is. Stop eating (so much of) it.

FDA food manufacturing inspections are weak, infrequent: gov't report

Federal inspectors are conducting fewer reviews of food manufacturing plants, with many facilities going more than five years without being checked, a government investigator said on Wednesday.
The drop in inspections could make an outbreak of foodborne disease more likely, putting the public at risk, according to a report from the Department of Health and Human Services' inspector general.

It's taken me many hours to even come close to formulating a response to this news that almost nine million pounds of beef is being thrown in the garbage this time. We must be the stupidest people on the face of the Earth.

There were herds of cattle that were not humanely cared for ("diseased and unhealthy&quot , were not conscientiously inspected by either the growers or state/federal employees, were slaughtered under gods know what conditions, were rendered and sent to market. AND ONLY THEN did someone realize they were unfit for human consumption. All I can do at this point is pray they are not recycled into animal food now, to continue the cycle of disease.

GW Bush gutted the departments responsible for inspections and enforcement. There are far, far too few inspectors to even begin to do the job adequately.

There are children in this country who go to bed hungry at night, who start the day without a good breakfast, who -- oh shit, you know as well as I do. And we are throwing nine million pounds of beef in the garbage.
