As the top federal prosecutor in New Jersey, Chris Christie struck an unusual deal with Bristol-
Myers Squibb.
In exchange for not charging the drugmaking giant with securities fraud, Christies office would require it to fund a professorship at Seton Hall Universitys law school Christies alma mater.
The $5 million gift, one component of a larger agreement between the company and prosecutors, was hailed by the school, in South Orange, N.J., as a cornerstone of its new center on business ethics.
In Washington, however, Christies superiors in the George W. Bush administration were uneasy about it, worried that it could look to the public like a U.S. attorney using his authority to benefit a pet cause.
Christie said the idea was not his but rather part of a negotiation between his prosecutors and the firm. In any case, spurred on by the Seton Hall deal and several other out-of-court settlements negotiated by Christies office, Justice Department officials ultimately enacted new rules limiting prosecutors discretion in reaching such agreements.

Call it Sanctimonious One, the taxpayer-funded helicopter, which Gov. Chris Christie didnt hesitate to use at our expense for a joyride (or several).
While everyone else, by the governors decree, must tighten belts and do without things like health care for women and tax rebates for seniors, for example Christie thought it was okay for taxpayers to cough up a grand or two so he could take the flying limousine to a ballfield.
Much More to the story..

Christie is always doing exactly what he wants and then when he gets busted he tries to wiggle out of it. How's that workin' for ya now Christie?

(16,864 posts)a much larger sum to the government, that is either extortion or a bribe; it's early, so I'm not sure right now which one it is. He should have gone to prison for that, but of course there are different rules for federal prosecutors.
