Will this be covered? Activists group and motorists caught up in GWB lane closures to rally today

FORT LEE — A group of North Jersey residents who say they suffered losses as a result of the George Washington Bridge lane closures last fall will be gathering today in a borough park.

The D.C.-based Progressive Change Campaign Committee and members of the New Jersey Working Families Alliance have scheduled a news conference for noon at Fort Lee Historic Park, with accounts from people who say they were stuck in the traffic jams.

The two activist groups say they have collected 10,000 signatures of New Jersey residents on petitions calling for Governor Christie to resign if he was directly involved in the closing of access lanes to the bridge that snarled Fort Lee traffic in September.

It was not immediately clear if the news conference is connected to any pending lawsuits. Six Bergen County residents filed a class-action suit in federal court in Newark against Christie’s staff and appointees at the Port Authority shortly after emails were made public Jan. 8 that showed the governor’s former deputy chief of staff, Bridget Anne Kelly, apparently ordered “some traffic problems in Fort Lee.” Others, including businesses, later joined the suit, according to the attorney on that case.
