Virginia Senate Votes To Repeal Ultrasound Mandate

The Virginia State Senate narrowly passed a bill on Tuesday that would repeal a state law requiring pregnant women to have ultrasounds before getting abortions.

The Senate, which recently flipped to Democratic control, split exactly down the middle on the ultrasound repeal, with 20 votes for and against it. Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam (D), who is a physician, cast the tie-breaking vote in favor of the repeal.

"This is a simple measure: if a woman needs an ultrasound, the doctor will decide," State Sen. Mamie Locke (D) told her colleagues during the debate over the bill.

This is why it's so important to get Dems elected at the state level.

Seems like strange wording. Shouldn't the doctor be advising, and the woman deciding?

needs an ultrasound. The woman would have the option of declining it, as she would any other medical procedure.

But I'm always looking at subtexts. "The doctor will decide" syntactically takes the choice out of the patient's hands. Call it a Freudian slip.

Still, better than "let the legislature decide" which is what they're repealing.

Let's pray we can get a Democratic governor in PA this November. We need to undo the damage that Gov. Tom Corbett has wrought.

We are still known for having a pack of loons in the house, I've already emailed the loon in my district but I doubt he will change his mind, women in Va made all the difference in the last election but the teabag/gop still has the votes in the house, we need to finish them off.
