The state Board of Regents, in response to criticism from parents and teachers, slowed down the reforms. They gave schools five years to fully put the standards in place and also said for the next two years, teachers wouldnt suffer consequences of poor performances on tests linked to Common Core.

The harder Common Core standards now being implemented in schools statewide have been adopted by more than 40 states and first appeared on New York state exams last year, causing a gigantic drop in test scores.
Teachers, advocates and politicians blamed the states education brass for ruining the rollout of the tougher standards by failing to prepare teachers and students.

have learning disabilities, some have poverty issues to deal with. I do not support Common Core no matter how long they give them to implement it.

(19,877 posts)2. I like the Common Core curriculum, BUT...
I don't think it should have been implemented the way they did. For example, my kid is in kindergarten so this is the only curriculum he knows and I like how challenging it is, but it should have been implemented for children starting school, not for kids who spent most of their life with one curriculum then suddenly switched to common core.
