(149,762 posts)I guess Mother Nature is puzzled by climate change too...
Hang on! We will get through this, one way or another...

(84,005 posts)Gotta say that it took me by surprise. I don't believe it is anything I have ever seen before, actually I know it's not!
Mother Nature is very angry at us. Can't say I blame her.

(27,247 posts)"That day was tragic. There were heavy clouds in the sky
around 4 or 5 in the afternoon the murky clouds cast darkness in the entire room. Suddenly a terrible storm started, with blizzard and snow
thunder made the room shudder, illuminating it with the cursed reflection of lightning on snow. Beethoven opened his eyes and with a threatening gesture raised his right arm towards the sky with his fist clenched. The expression of his face was horrifying. His hand fell to the ground. His eyes closed. Beethoven was no more."

(3,370 posts)It's a convection thing. When you have snow falling at a rapid rate, it can cause lightning and then thunder. It's not too common, but I've experienced it quite a few times over the years - the first time was in Massachusetts.
We're at the tail end of the same storm. We had a ton of thundersnow earlier this evening - with every sort of precipitation as well. This has been one hell of a storm.
Stay warm!!!

(11,065 posts)I happened to be out with the dog, and barely got a couple of blocks when a HUGE clap of thunder went off, and we both jumped, turned around and raced as fast as we could in knee deep snow for home. Another two huge claps boomed just as we got to the backyard. The sky also opened up and poured rain on us just before that first thunder boom. That was all there was to the thunder and lightening though.
A couple of hours ago the rain turned back to snow, so we went out again. It's coming down really fast, and our footprints in the lower places (Yoshi likes to dive through the biggest mounds of snow he can find the whole way instead of walking on what's been plowed or shoveled) were nearly gone when we got nearer to the house again.
We've not gotten any ice though. It's very wet heavy snow that's all slush underneath, and the end of most peoples' driveways have big lakes of slushy water where they curve downward and meet the street. Just got back about a half an hour ago (Yoshi still wants to stay out in the yard playing "Plow Doggie" with his face and chest and digging for his football) and the wind is really blowing like crazy now. It started really picking up about halfway through our walk, but it actually felt kind of good since I was sweating under my coat with all the snow mountain climbing that the plows made and wading through sometimes even crotch deep drifts (almost lost a boot in the bottom of one).
For the first time in weeks though I felt like I could finally stop picking out slippery white or black ice... already had one pretty bad fall with the ice storm from last week, and I just can't do that again.
I'm pissed that all that shoveling and shoveling and shoveling I did today (and still only got about half way through plowing my car out) that now I have to do that all over again. It's REALLY heavy wet show that's mostly slush on the bottom that's even heavier.
I tell you what, that thunder scared the crap out of me - sooooo unexpected this time of year!

(84,005 posts)I only have to do my steps, second floor and not easy. Then yes there is the car. Snow started at 8am and the damn plow didn't clear the drive til 5.
I got stuck! The guys helped me out!
