Please don't tell me that in our America you can shoot into a SUV full of teenagers and murder one, leave the scene, never report the crime,go back to your hotel, order a pizza, and walk...
Please...

(22,165 posts)(hope springs eternal). I know we have a horribly racists criminal justice system ... but, I am still holding on to the belief that truth and justice is possible

(12,608 posts)of this world can walk. Then it has to be questioned. Now if this man walks I think there is a pattern of corrupt judges in that state.Something is seriously wrong in Florida.

(43,226 posts)Because the exact manner of death was not known and could not be proven. I think Anthony definitely was involved in at least some way in her daughter's death, but because we don't know how her daughter died, it made proving her guilt on the homicide charges nearly impossible.
George Zimmerman should be sitting in Raiford as we speak, but he took advantage of a legal loophole that got him off. The jury was not allowed to be instructed to consider whether Zimmerman's own actions precipitated the shooting. Plus you had Juror B37 who I think had preconceived notions of what happened and should not have been allowed on the jury.
But these aren't problems necessarily specific to Florida.

(99,719 posts)I see your point about Anthony but plenty of people have been convicted of murder without a corpus delicti.

(47,209 posts)Something lower like neglect- but jurors came out and complained they had to find for murder or let her off. They were wrong- and derelict in their duty to have never considered all the charges. Idiots.

(22,165 posts)....but, i refuse to acknowledge that a 'not guilty' on the most egregious charges is even possible. To do that all of the jurors would have to lack basic humanity.
If (iff) that occurs I will flip out ... but, until then I am holding on to the belief that they will do the right thing.

(12,608 posts)I just can't see him walking. But I felt the same way about the Casey Anthony case . In total disbelief that she walked.

(10,953 posts)trial is just confirms what everyone knows. If you want to murder someone, Florida is the state to live in.
I do know that there are some good people in Florida but there are also a lot of bad laws and murderers as well.
I am a white person and it makes me so angry that there is any group of people in this country that gets so little justice. There is no equal protection and justice under the law.

(15,435 posts)This constant killing with people walking is making me insane! The SYG Law was and outrage to me from the first time I heard about it. Now, after many, many killings (there are so many people don't know about) IF this arrogant, bigoted, obnoxious holier than thou piece of crap walks... THE LAW WILL NEVER GO AWAY!!
I AM SO AFRAID! My stomach is in knots just waiting. Not one to watch trials per se, but these trials using SYG are serious business.
I won't be a hypocrite and ask for prayers or say I'm praying because of my religious views, but I know my heart is in the right place. This man is a danger and every time we let one like him walk away with a very light sentence, we continue to send all the wrong messages!
I don't support the death penalty, but life without parole would require him to face endless days without freedom. Sure he can adjust to the system, but I'm sure most of us don't want to live behind bars for the rest of our lives!
PLEASE, please don't let him walk. Saw the clip from his neighbors and they had nothing good to say about him. I'm sure his family loves him, but what he did deserves NO LOVE!

(33,651 posts)the State shaped like a penis and a gun, anything can happen.
Of course if it was reversed and the victim was white and the accused black, he would already be serving time.
