(48,181 posts)SYG is NOT a RKBA issue. There is no constitutional right to murder people who you think might hurt you. It is part of Gun Culture. The horror that is florida is a direct consequence of the stupid ass gun culture, stupid ass rightwing gun culture, that goes hand in hand with the rest of the right wing agenda, no matter how loudly some here protest that there is no connection.

So up until he broke the law and now has been found guilty at least on some of the charges and will be going to jail for a long time, I guess he was law abiding but probably still a thug.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)demonstrates how inadequate background checks and permit laws are. The only reasonable, responsible action is to restrict the heck out of gun sales and toting, no matter how loudly gun fanciers whine. If Zman, Dunn and Reeves had been unarmed, no one would have been killed.

Question to Hoyt:
How does my small collection of firearms, which consists of a few rifles, two shotguns, and three handguns, all locked in a safe, pollute society?
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)cherokeeprogressive
(24,853 posts)That was Hoyt's only response to a thread I posted last year concerning rational discussion of gun laws, and how I felt gun laws should be approached.
So, when Hoyt says I "support lax gun laws", I'm afraid I have to say Hoyt is a LIAR. Hoyt's GDS (Gun Derangement Syndrome) allows or possibly even forces him to tell lies without hesitation nor compunction. His GDS alters his reality to the point he can't remember what he's read or said in the past. In short, it causes him whether he realizes it or not, to tell lies. This is sad. Very, very sad. Would that someone could find a cure for GDS.
Hoyt says I "promote gunz". What does that even mean? Do I stand at the corner wearing a sandwich board that, instead of saying "Eat at Joes" says "Buy More Gunz"? That I lend my face to ads by gun manufacturers selling their product? Or do I post here at DU that "moar gunz is the answer"? I can assure you that you will not search DU and find any evidence of an instance where I "promote gunz". I DO support the right of an individual to own firearms, according to the Second Amendment. Of that I am not ashamed. I do not believe The Framers would add an amendment to their document that says, to wit: IF, the citizen FIRST satisfies THIS condition, the federal government SHALL NOT infringe upon their right to do THAT.
Hoyt says I "promote... toting". Read the previous paragraph.
Oh by the way, here's the link to Hoyt's response to the thread I started:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=2802656
And, here's the OP he responded to:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=2800675
Now, I called Hoyt a liar, and not without reason. Hoyt lied. I DO NOT support lax gun laws, and am on record stating as much, causing Hoyt to respond in what I can only term as a conciliatory tone. So to the people who are inevitably going to sit on a jury to hide this post because I called Hoyt a liar: I would ask you; before you vote, follow the links and see WHY I called Hoyt a liar, because without that context, the reasoning might not be evident.
Hoyt? You're a liar.

(24,853 posts)You said I promoted gunz, toting, and lax gun laws.
That's a lie.
That makes you a liar.
Unless, of course, you can find a post where I promote (whatever the hell that means) "gunz", "toting", OR lax gun laws. I've already taken a positive step in the opposite direction, now here's YOUR chance:
PROVE you're not lying when you tell the board I promote "gunz", "toting", or lax gun laws.
PROVE IT, or remain a liar.
Or, I guess you'd rather take the route another poster took this morning... "We say it's so, so it's so and we DON'T need to show links to prove it." It's right here below this very post. My first inclination is to believe you'll take that way out.

(54,770 posts)"MY personal gun and those of my neighbors keep the government from running roughshod over not only MY rights but those of my neighbors. Hussein's government wouldn't have CONSIDERED a gas attack against citizens within its own borders if they were armed.
Gun ownership WILL prevent events like HALABJA in this country YOU FUCKING BET. A unarmed citizenry exists at the pleasure of it's rulers. When those rulers are not happy, innocent people die. History bears this out. Come take my gun. Come take the guns of 300,000,000 people and tell them it's for their own good." http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=988124

The thread and my posts in it were about The Second Amendment, and how it was meant to prevent the federal government from infringing upon my right to own a firearm. Of course one could twist themselves into a pretzel and say that somehow "promotes guns", and you've done it. I hope you stretched first; I don't want to be responsible for your pulling any muscles.
So you caught me. I promote guns, promote "toting", and promote lax gun laws. Oh wait...

(24,853 posts)So now, when someone feels they're right about something they can simply say "We'll claim this, and no, you won't ask US to link to anything to prove it because we're saying that's the way it is so that's the way it is."
The next time someone says to me "Gotta link for that?" or "Cite, please?" I'll point them to this bookmarked thread. Maybe, just maybe, with time we can stop this needless practice of asking people to back up their claims.
The OP also states "A slew of them were passed or were strengthened between 2005 and 2011. They were positively giddy as they typed with one hand." Do you also claim to remember posts that were typed with one hand?
The OP uses the term "happily crowing". Now, I'm not exactly sure how to interpret that, but I'm thinking he means bragging. I'm sorry, I don't remember seeing anyone brag about any law associated with Stand Your Ground, or The Castle Doctrine.

Duckhunter935
(16,974 posts)Does not bother me at all. I think it is just funny that on a progressive board there would be this much animosity towards another person with democratic views that supports the platform. One side does seem to sink down to a very low level here, kind of sad actually. You would think a point of view on facts would be the better approach but I guess not when the facts are not generally on your side you then resort to blanket name calling and smears of fellow members.
