has anyone else received an item in the mail they didn't order?

like a "NASCAR" collectible with a form that says it can be returned to the company
but the credit card it was ordered under will be charged $5.50 from the credit
associated with the return?

I street googled the address it was ordered from (not mine) and it was an open field in
Claremont California but shipped out of JVille FL.

What's the best way of dealing with this?

I think you should dispute it with the card company too. Then call the BBB and let them know.

You might give the attorney generals office a call, I lived there for meany years and the law used to be that anything that was sent to you unsolicited was yours to keep at no charge... I once received several tapes form one of the well known companies that does tapes/cds and I refused to pay for it, they tried to make me send it back and I just told them no way, you sent me a gift by California law and I intend to keep it.. never heard another word about it..

7. If it was sent to you without your ordering it it is yours to do with as you please

Their mistake is their mistake, not your mistake. I'd call my credit card company with the information that came with it and that you will not be paying for this item, nor will you be paying to send it back.

I had a similar thing happen to us 15 year or so ago. A book company sent my wife a book on something, sorry can't remember what it was, that she did not want and did not order. In the letter there was a number to call if we had any questions. I called them and thanked them for the fire building material, that I use a wood stove in my shop and am always looking for material to start the fire with and the pages of the book were working great for that. We went back and forth between me and supervisors and what nots there for a while, I was enjoying this to the max because I knew that If we didn't order it it was not our place to do anything that we didn't want to do. At the end they said they'd not be sending me a return mailing label and at it was ours to keep. This hard back book was over a hundred bucks they wanted us to send them, then they said they'd send me a return mailing label and I reminded them that the book was already half gone as it was being used in building the fires in my wood stove like I'd been telling them. Finally they agreed that I was under no obligation to do anything except what I did if that was what I wanted to do. I never heard from them again, no bill no phone calls nothing. I don't even know what the hell I did with the book to be honest with you. Anyone who has a wood burning stove knows that shiny pages from a book isn't the best thing to use to build a fire with so I didn't actually use it for that. Now that my memory has been jogged I think I remember that we took it to the library and put it in their drop box.

Sometimes mistakes happen. It seems like if the business made an honest mistake, the nice thing to do would be to let them send a return label, and send it back at their expense, instead of being an ass to some customer service associate who didn't even make the mistake.

and let me know that right up front in no uncertain words.
I don't like being scammed and this was a scam.
same as what the OP is about.
My time here is worth more to me than taking a chance on loosing it to tell you what I think of your dick move comment so I'll ignore that.

They are paying a huge debt/curse brought on by Jackson and the authoritarians, and the best thing one can do is just stay out of its way.

I opened it and found several vicodin wrapped in paper toweling. Then I noticed it was addressed to some other name at my address. Inside there was also an unsigned note that said "Hope this helps."

I threw them down the garbage disposal. I don't use narcotics, lol.
