Thanks for NOTHING, Rick Snyder & other Republican traitors to MI workers

My university union has formally decided to split from the MEA/NEA & have formed our own union. I really don't know what the ramifications of this will be, but I do know that I'm not really comfortable with no longer having state & national muscle backing us anymore. We aren't the only ones, so I think that the MEA will cease to be much of a factor in the 2014 elections, which is unfortunate. They did shoot themselves in the foot by hiking university dues significantly to bail out K-12, which many didn't appreciate. I didn't mind all that much, but I'm tribal, so I naturally gravitate towards the "we" before "me".

Anyway, here's to another sucky day in Michigan, or Mississichigan.

what did Snyder and the republicans have to do with your unions decision to unaffiliate with the MEA? One would presume that it was actions by the MEA that precipitated such a change...... elaboration , please?

Our union members saw the destruction that Right to Work will have on the MEA and the dues were deemed too high for any potential benefit we may receive in the future. Before the union-busting Right to Work, the MEA was in a much better position to advocate for us, now their own existence is threatened. The state legislature made it illegal for unions to take dues out of our paychecks. Now why is that, do you think?

was voting to dissolve, I could understand the link to the right to work laws but this is a case of one union disassociating itself from another union, not of a union disappearing. It would still appear that the driving force behind the decision to leave the MEA is the amount of the dues that MEA is demanding v. bang for the buck, no?

It would appear further that if the MEA wants to retain membership, then they ether have to lower their dues or increase the perceived bang for the buck to the membership.

I guess I don't have a problem with allowing a local to make the decision to either go it alone or find some other national or regional union to affiliate with but maybe I'm missing something?

If you are a union member, public school educator, woman, person of color, LGBTQ, social service worker, make under a $100,000.00 a year...
YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS EVER TO VOTE FOR A REPUBLICAN!!!
