A Democratic candidate for district attorney in Harris County, Texas says domestic violence should be prosecuted less.
In an interview with the Texas Observer on Wednesday, the candidate, Lloyd Oliver, said that "family violence is so, so overrated."

"There are some people I don't understand it but part of their making love is to beat one another up first," Oliver said. "Why do we want to get involved in people's bedrooms?"

Have you EVER seen anything so atrocious?
Sure as hell ain't like any Democrat I've ever supported. Thank goodness, I'm not in Texas where I might actually have to cast a ballot for a Republican just because of this ass.

(22,871 posts)tried to kick him off the ticket as a dem and lost in court. It must be a blue county because they're afraid straight ticket votes could get him accidentally elected.

(3,182 posts)It shouldnt require explanation that domestic violence, and the prehistoric attitude that abuse is a private problem that doesnt require or deserve public resources, is abhorrent. But by the by, October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and according to Harris County Domestic Violence Coordinating Council, Harris County sees more victims killed by abuse than any other county in the state.
Really, Olivers stand on this issue but scratches the surface of the political melanoma that is his candidacy. Heres a tiny sample more from the Press feature:
(Oliver) compliments women frequently on whatever fine aroma they may be wearing. He characterizes certain teenage girls as sticking out every which way you can imagine.
He is wary of Seattle because of all the queers holding hands and the rag heads. He loves soup. And his opinion of the local Democratic leadership? Frustrated homosexuals.
Practically everyone whos paying attention is worried that Oliver could win if enough people vote straight-ticket Democrat, which is perhaps likelier in this presidential election year. Olivers opponent, Republican Mike Anderson, said an Oliver victory could spark a mass exodus of as many as 100 of the 240 prosecutors in the District Attorneys Office, according to the Houston Chronicle.

(1,754 posts)The republicans will run their favored candidate and also run someone as a democrat for local offices so they win either way. As a bonus, they have the "democrat" say and do outrageous or stupid things which just makes the democratic party look worse. It works well in areas that are already pretty red where there is no great interest from actual democrats to run for office.

(20,043 posts)This piece of shit! This is the very definition of misogynist. He probably wouldn't even recognize LGBT domestic violence which makes him a bigot at the very least.
Everyday 3 women die because of domestic violence. That's about 4,000 a year. LGBT domestic violence, 3,419 cases in one year ('08) AND you think it's over rated.
Most are killed (75%) while trying to leave a relationship.
I think you should have to spend hours watching what domestic violence does to the person abused as well as any children in the home/relationship. Get him the fuck out of office. He'll only get more people killed with this bullshit.

Or that they said they wanted some sexxxy S&M action, then felt guilty and ashamed and tried to ruin some poor, innocent person's life.
