Exclusive: Read the Speech Venezuelan Opposition Leader Leopoldo López Made Before He Was JailedBefore he was hauled off to prison on trumped up charges of terrorism, Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez spoke to throngs of supporters, explaining his decision to hand himself over to government forces.
Yesterday, Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo López met throngs of supporters at Plaza Brión de Chacaíto in Caracas, mounted a statue of Cuban liberation hero José Martí, and gave a thunderousand extemporaneousspeech on the death of Venezuelan democracy. When Lopez finished, he delivered himself, draped in a Venezuelan flag and clutching a handful of flowers, into the hands of to the National Guard. He was quickly bundled into an armored vehicle and spirited off to prison. A few days previous, the authoritarian government of Nicolás Maduro, bent on neutralizing a charismatic member of the opposition, issued an arrest warrant for Lopez, accusing him of terrorism and suborning murder for his role in organizing anti-government protests.
What follows is a transcript of those comments, translated and published in English for the first time.
As you know, today in Venezuela, were living dark times, where criminals are rewarded by the government, and those of us in Venezuela who want peaceful, democratic change following the constitution, are threatened with jail.

Just embarrassingly loaded coverage. No wonder the people who bathe in this crap are so stupid.

(220 posts)It's just so awful. They call Snowden (a whistleblower who exposed government crimes) a traitor, but Lopez (a RW agitator who engaged in a coup attempt) is portrayed as a patriotic political dissident. Absolutely disgusting.
