General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI start a new job on Monday.
Working at the most advanced computer chip fab in the world. I think it's also the biggest in the world. Way better money than I was making. Been out of work since this past December.
things were getting tough. I thought I was going to lose my home. Pretty sure I can keep it now.
Have a lot of catching up to do money wise. But I think I can pull this off.
I'll be working as a Vacuum Technician. I have experience in this field from when I worked in
the solar cell industry. Chips and solar cells are both semiconductors.
Can't wait to start. Here is a short video about computer chip manufacturing.
It's bit dated and there are newer videos but I think this is better for people unfamiliar with the process.
Peace to my DU friends and everyone else.

I'm going back to watch the creation of the 7.87" (200 mm) 400 lb piece of silicon strong enough to hang from a 3 mm thread. It looks unreal.
Thanks amerikat

(10,597 posts)Watched the video. I know a little about this line of work. Little Sis got her start at Texas Instruments in Dallas. When you said you would be a vacuum tech, I knew what you was talking about. So glad you found this job. Maybe it will hold you now until you retire! You are lucky, as most people our age are shite out of luck trying to find a job.
