garage likely to blow your mind - pic by @Andriyak
@oflynnkevin:
When did Yanukovich build this residence, zoo, car collection etc? He's only been president for less than one term?
A boat?
A zoo:

Looks like the Neverland Ranch.

(62,287 posts)This makes little sense without more context. Was it not there before he came to power but there now? The cars in the first picture appear to have little signs in front of them explaining their history or something. Looks more like a museum.

(101,405 posts)It doesn't look like somewhere set up to show round friends or people you want to impress - it looks like it's for visitors to go round on their own. I'd guess 'public museum next to his residence' or something like that.

(17,111 posts)apparently had no idea about.
You think those are 'museum' quality items of Ukrainian culture?
muriel_volestrangler
(101,405 posts)and the information plates look exactly like a museum (and yes, museums do contain old cars).
Looking for more, it appears this was known about( the mock 'galleon', anyway), but does seems to have been off limits to the public: http://www.worldaffairsjournal.org/blog/alexander-j-motyl/yanukovych%E2%80%99s-galleon-and-yushchenko%E2%80%99s-obsession
Googel translation of the article: http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pravda.com.ua%2Farticles%2F2012%2F08%2F24%2F6971416%2F
Unfortunately, we get "Yanukovych has repeatedly vidhreschuvavsya of these objects, although they belong to him, no doubt." Is that 'denied knowledge'? 'denied ordering'? 'denied ownership'?
Are_grits_groceries
(17,111 posts)And I'm not buying that those cars are part of any museum except his own.
He did exactly what many who come to power do:
Spend money that's not his on excessive crap for himself no matter what the country needs. Of course he could have been the one-in-a-million leader who is just the caretaker of these expensive and ancient objects of their culture.

Running them through Google Translate, the first link says in part, "In one of the hangars Mezhigorie found bags of jewels. It is reported Espreso.TV. Note that the activists of the "right sector" got into the hangar, where they found a large amount of jewelry. They were stored in boxes and bags. Among them were gold, icons, antiques and precious books."
The second says, "Gold cufflinks were found in a garage in Mezhyhirya with antique icons, books and valuable coins. Also found in the residence garage with a bunch of vintage cars. Also, the found a gold coin with a portrait of Yanukovych weighs a kilo."
