(492 posts)I thought it was just a swipe at the small minded bigots who registered their anger and dismay at the couple and, then, at the audacity of running a commercial featuring an interracial couple and child.
But I agree with you, her parentage was not an issue with me at all, either. And I personally think the people who complained about it don't deserve or warrant the attention they've gotten.

(49,064 posts)We are looking for information and cogent discussion. They are rarely found in "This!" threads or threads titled "You gotta read this!" or other similarly breathless zero information titles.
Sure, the writer can have a little fun and sometimes we click them for entertainment, but most of them we skip over automatically because there is so little time in the day that there is no way to read everything on DU.

(49,064 posts)What part of "little", "most" & sometimes do you not understand?
Comprehending the meaning avoids turning "little time" into "not one puny second".
It is too common for people to use binary thinking: the fallacy of the excluded middle, thinking that there is no middle ground, that it is all or nothing, that there are no shades of gray. They skip over qualifier adverbs and adjectives.
For them, "sometimes we click them for entertainment, but most of them we skip over automatically" is read as "we never click and always skip over".
Get rid of binary thinking.
If people want to have their posts read more often, they are advised to use informative titles, like "Great graphic about inclusion". It is still possible to tease the reader a bit while letting them know they can expect a graphic and not an essay or article or rant in the OP. It is simply that.

(11,843 posts)"This." is a stupid subject line. Nothing will change that. It was clever the first time someone used it years ago. Now? Not so much.
My opinion, if you don't like it, ignore it. Besides you are pretty busy with all those problems.
sheshe2

(11,843 posts)In case you didn't notice, I said I liked the picture, but you have been having a hissy over the fact that I think "This." as a subject line is way past its prime.
sheshe2
(84,005 posts)And I am not the one that made the subject line a topic, now am I. That would be you and Electric Monk. LOL, I am having a "hissy"?! I never said anything about it until you and Monk admonished me for it.
I know you liked the graphic, you said so. Yes I am able to comprehend what people write to me. Yet you are the one fixated on the subject line. I didn't bring it up. You did.
This is getting silly. You can stop now~
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)over it. I have said, and will continue to say that the subject line "This" is ridiculously overused and meaningless. I have not spoken derisively of you or your screen name.
You are free to stop anytime with your personal attacks.
sheshe2
(84,005 posts)Well saying I am having a "hissy" is derisive.
Now you are bringing up my screen name??? What is that all about pray tell?!?!! Oh please do enlighten me.
Waiting~
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)You will have to wait quite awhile as I have nothing to say about your screen name. Never once have. My statement, "I have not spoken derisively of you or your screen name." seems pretty clear.
I have not spoken derisively of you. I have not spoken derisively of your screen name. See how that works? I think that was maybe fourth or fifth grade. Wait sorry. It may have been fourth grade. It may have been fifth grade. I wouldn't want to confuse you further.
Perhaps hissy means something different where you are from. If you find it offensive, my apologies. However "This!" is still perhaps the most overused, most uninformative, most ridiculous subject line ever.
You have been going on and on, yet you have been unable to come up with even a single sentence to say how good "This!" is as a subject line. You have been unable to say what it means. You have nothing but personal attacks, rudeness, and now apparently, trouble understanding the word "or".

(11,843 posts)I have yet to see anyone come up with a shred of an argument of how "This!" makes any sense. Can no one find anything to say in support of "This!" Is it some sort of acronym of which I am unaware? Does it have some sort of sentimental meaning to people? Is it a memorial to a DU who has passed?
WTH does it mean? Or is it exactly what I have maintained - meaningless - void of content - waste of space.

really looking in the mirror, are we? I've only see catty and rude remarks from you and your comrade because of "this"? Small minds create big problems sometimes when in fact there was no problem at all.
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)I have said that "This!" is a moronic subject line. As a subject line it is quite stupid as it conveys no meaning. I have not attacked anything but a subject line. On the other hand I have had repeated personal attacks levied against me, presumably because no one can find a single argument why "This!" makes any sense at all.
Who's small mind are you referring to? I'm going to assume that you meant someone else because you certainly are not jumping on the bandwagon of making personal attacks, are you?
There has been lots of repetition of "This" as a subject line, as if repleting it often and loud ever works to support a meme with no substance. There's some news station that does that, but I forget which one it is.
you're the word police. I understand now.
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)I happen to dislike "This!" as a subject line. Other people dislike the word "Moist" (google it, there are blogs)
It appears that your mission is be a bully, and be derisive of my opinion, without a shred of a hint of a reason why "This!" makes any sense at all. It's void of meaning, not unlike what you have been posting.

Ted Nugent was finally hoisted on his own petard of loose lipped Obama vitriol, as all RWers should be. They are lowly and cowardly and not fit to comment on the issues that this world faces.
"The lady doth protest too much, methinks," applies here. Their problem is not the title, as no one here is assigned to be thread monitors. It is your support of Obama that is the real offense for some, no doubt.
