http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2014/feb/24/tenn-house-condemns-student-organizers-of-uts/?CID=happeningnowNASHVILLE The state House of Representatives voted 69-17 Monday night to approve a resolution that condemns the organizers of Sex Week at the University of Tennessee apparently a pair of students who co-founded the inaugural event on the Knoxville campus last year.
The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Richard Floyd, R-Chattanooga, also expresses (the Houses) displeasure with the University for permitting Sex week to be held for a second consecutive year. Set for March 2-7, Sex Week is a student-funded, student planned week of events, lectures and forums ranging from sexual assault prevention, abstinence and long-term commitment to an aphrodisiac cooking class and a condom scavenger hunt.
Floyds resolution originally condemned the administration of the University of Tennessee, but he submitted an amendment at the start of the debate changing its focus to organizers of the event. But Republicans on the Senate Education Committee last week grilled UT President Joe DiPietro and UT Knoxville Chancellor Jimmy Cheek on the matter and said they are going to call them back for more discussion later.
Under questioning, Floyd initially denied that the resolution is condemning students but then admitted, If the students are organizing it, were condemning them. At least I am.

On one hand, I am irritated that TN politicians have nothing better to do than officially condemn others in the name of purity. On the the other hand, I am amused that the number of politicians who voted to finger-wag was 69.

OP
So the right to bear arms is OK but the right to assemble is not. More GOP hypocrisy.

But then again these are right wing Bible Belt legislators. The House has 70 Republicans and 28 Democrats and an independent; assuming no Democrat voted yea all but one Republican voted yea. How could this House get a 70% Republican majority? Wonder how TN house districts are drawn.
Maybe these legislators are better serving I'm Saudi Arabia if they are so scared of S-E-X. Thankfully California has too many D legislators got a similar resolution to eden make the floor!
