I know people who were once gung ho and in love with him have gotten pretty tight lipped lately.

I never liked him and new he was a dirtbag from the word go. Goes back to before he road in on the coat tails of the TEA wing of the Republican Party.

masquerading as a bipartisan moderate. Never fooled Bruce Springsteen, either -- what possible interest could Christie have in embracing a working class hero? I nicknamed him "Governor Soprano" two years ago. Learning that he had to publish an apology against an opponent he's defamed, and that he turned up his political mentor's doorstep at the age of fourteen strikes me as downright anti-climatic.

I couldn't figure out why he was getting support from NJ Dems, though. Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer has given me the answer: Christie's idea of leadership is "My way or the highway" -- and his idea of bipartisanship is "My way or I'll CLOSE your highway!"

Others are pretty much disgusted. I know some of my co-workers who loved him after Sandy have turned against him. Republicans, even the Tea Party types who didn't much like him, are circling the wagons hence his friendly town halls in deep red districts.

and I've noticed a definite change. The folks who used to go around talking about "I saw Chris" and "Chris and Mary Pat did this" are much quieter about such things at the basketball games and other school events these days. I get a lot of questions about what is going on and people who would formerly have defended him to the nth degree or thought a month ago that Bridgegate is no bid deal are appalled when I explain the issues around Sandy money. Then the GW Bridge affair doesn't seem quite so minor anymore. My observations are based on a limited sample, but it comes from the hardest of the hardcore supporters. One other note, some of the long-term political establishment people in the county have taken to saying they knew something like this would happen all along and it was just a matter of time. (With friends like these.... )

I live in the West Morris Megalopolis! Where the royal gasbag and his bride grace us with their presence at all manner of ordinary events. The place is lousy with his Livingston High School classmates too. (but just the cool ones-not like Wildstein) Nothing like being at a football game when the state police entourage arrives.
